A Model for Prejudiced Learning in Noisy Environments [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Mathematics and Computation, vol. 168, no. 1 (2005) 354-379, 2003
Based on the heuristics that maintaining presumptions can be beneficial in uncertain environments, we propose a set of basic axioms for learning systems to incorporate the concept of prejudice. The simplest, memoryless model of a deterministic learning rule obeying the axioms is constructed, and shown to be equivalent to the logistic map.

Voluntary Dismissal of Time-Barred Claims [PDF]

Cellular liquid biopsy provides unique chances for disease monitoring, preclinical model generation and therapy adjustment in rare salivary gland cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We quantified and cultured circulating tumor cells (CTCs) of 62 patients with various cancer types and generated CTC‐derived tumoroid models from two salivary gland cancer patients. Cellular liquid biopsy‐derived information enabled molecular genetic assessment of systemic disease heterogeneity and functional testing for therapy selection in both ...

This elusive objective existence [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Quantum Information 2(2), 201-220 (2004), 2004
Zurek's existential interpretation of quantum mechanics suffers from three classical prejudices, including the belief that space and time are intrinsically and infinitely differentiated. They compel him to relativize the concept of objective existence in two ways.

Supersymmetry Without Prejudice

open access: yes, 2009
We begin an exploration of the physics associated with the general CP-conserving MSSM with Minimal Flavor Violation, the pMSSM. The 19 soft SUSY breaking parameters in this scenario are chosen so as to satisfy all existing experimental and theoretical ...

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) trajectories predict survival in trifluridine/tipiracil‐treated metastatic colorectal cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The authors applied joint/mixed models that predict mortality of trifluridine/tipiracil‐treated metastatic colorectal cancer patients based on circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) trajectories. Patients at high risk of death could be spared aggressive therapy with the prospect of a higher quality of life in their remaining lifetime, whereas patients with a ...

MET variants with activating N‐lobe mutations identified in hereditary papillary renal cell carcinomas still require ligand stimulation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MET variants in the N‐lobe of the kinase domain, found in hereditary papillary renal cell carcinoma, require ligand stimulation to promote cell transformation, in contrast to other RTK variants. This suggests that HGF expression in the microenvironment is important for tumor growth in such patients. Their sensitivity to MET inhibitors opens the way for
