Hybrid Nanofibers for Multimodal Accelerated Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Fabrication of wound healing scaffolds based on biocompatible nanofibers. Nanofibers offering high surface area, flexibility, and biocompatibility significantly improved the healing outcome in vivo. Histological, immunological, and anti‐inflammatory markers are noticeably better in treated wounds.

Low-energy negative muon interaction with matter

open access: yes, 2016
Using simulated data, obtained with the FLUKA code, we derive empirical regularities about the propagation and stopping of low-energy negative muons in hydrogen and selected solid materials.

Peptomer Linkers Enable Kinetic Control over Co‐Delivery of Multiple Chemotherapeutics

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A key challenge in combinatorial chemotherapeutic drug delivery is independent control over release kinetics, especially with drugs of similar size and structure. Here, peptoid substitutions to proteolytically degradable peptides enabled the design of fast and slow‐releasing drug linkers.

Radiation‐Resistant Aluminum Alloy for Space Missions in the Extreme Environment of the Solar System

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A novel ultrafine‐grained aluminum crossover alloy exhibits unprecedented radiation resistance and mechanical stability under extreme irradiation doses up to 100 dpa. The exceptional resilience arises from thermodynamically stable T‐phase precipitates, enabling lightweight structural materials for next‐generation spacecraft and extraterrestrial ...

Outlier Detection Using Nonconvex Penalized Regression

open access: yes, 2010
This paper studies the outlier detection problem from the point of view of penalized regressions. Our regression model adds one mean shift parameter for each of the $n$ data points.

Autonomous Hydrogel Actuators Programmed by Endogenous Biochemical Logic for Dual‐Stage Morphing and Drug Release

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printed BSA–PEGDA bilayer actuator performs biochemical logic, bending autonomously in acid and releasing its drug payload only when both acid and pepsin are present. This dual‐stage, enzyme‐gated mechanism enables autonomous catch‐and‐release motion and controlled gastric drug delivery, representing a programmable soft material powered by ...

Membrane Semi‐Permeability and Ion Selectivity in Chemiosmosis: Open Systems Volume Dependence of Electrolyte Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Very small cellular compartments can break electroneutrality and harness proton gradients without active transport structures, whereas larger volumes cannot, underscoring why life's critical energy processes are confined in microscopic spaces. ABSTRACT The effect of pH changes in external ionic solutions on liposomes entrapping non‐permeable weak acid ...

Designing Defect Structure and Interfacial Strain in an Epitaxial VN Bilayer Film by Tailoring N Concentration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The N concentration in an epitaxial VN bilayer is tailored from overstoichiometric V0.49N0.51 to understoichiometric V0.56N0.44. Based on ab initio, diffraction, and microscopy data, the overstoichiometric V0.49N0.51 layer contains V vacancies, N Frenkel pairs, and a high density of dislocations.

Dark current, breakdown, and magnetic field effects in a multicell, 805 MHz cavity

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2003
We present measurements of dark currents and x rays in a six cell 805 MHz cavity, taken as part of an rf development program for muon cooling, which requires high power, high stored energy, low frequency cavities operating in a strong magnetic field.
