Strong Photoluminescence Enhancement in All‐Dielectric Ge Thin Film Metasurfaces for Integration on the Si Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Germanium (Ge) all‐dielectric metasurfaces can be leveraged to strongly enhance the radiative emission from Ge layers grown on silicon‐on‐insulator substrates by industry‐standard processes. At room‐temperature, the narrowband photoluminescence (PL) intensity is enhanced by a factor ∼40× with respect to unstructured films.

Graph theory applied to Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy for the preliminary clustering of archaeological pottery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) is a methodology of investigation relatively fast and virtually non-destructive (Bertolini et al., 2006). Actually, it is an open system that can lend itself to many different applications and that can be

A Proof‐of‐Concept Assessment of a Novel Wearable Eyelid Muscle Device: A Pre‐Clinical Animal Cadaver Study for Eyelid Closure Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article introduces a soft wearable eyelid sling device incorporating a hydraulic soft artificial muscle (SAM) for achieving complete closure of an eyelid. The SAM is driven by a cam mechanism that provides a displacement profile closely matched with those of a healthy eyelid.

VOLT-TIME CHARACTERISTICS OF INSULATING OILS STRESSED BY LIGHTNING IMPULSES [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Previous experimental studies of lightning-impulse electric strength have used the method proposed in the IEC-WG 10-04 and ASIM D-3300 standards. Following this method the breakdown occurs on the tail of the wave, and the value of electric strength ...

Fibre Bragg grating fabrication in germanosilicate fibres with 244nm femtosecond laser light [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The ability to fabricate strong and extraordinarily stable Bragg gratings in any type of fibre using femtosecond laser light has attracted much interest in the recent past. The induced index change has been attributed to glass densification brought about

AI‐Powered Framework for Evaluating Drug Efficacy for Three‐Dimensional In Vitro Cancer Models in Robot‐Assisted Production

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
An AI‐powered, robot‐assisted framework automatically produces, images, and analyzes 3D tumor spheroids to evaluate drug efficacy. Integrated modules handle spheroid formation, live/dead staining, brightfield imaging, and automated image analysis, including spheroid segmentation, viability and metrics to assess the drug treatment efficacy. The workflow

The effects of fasting on acute ischemic infarcts in the rat.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Inflammation is largely detrimental early in the acute phase of stroke but beneficial at more chronic stages. Fasting has been shown to reduce inflammation acutely.

Exploratory Study on the Application of Starter and Inoculum of Trichoderma sp. with Various Dosages on the Reduction of Moisture Content in Cattle Manure Composting

open access: yesFlorea: Jurnal Biologi dan Pembelajarannya
Cattle manure is an organic waste with high moisture content that can slow down decomposition and produce unpleasant odors. Improving composting efficiency can be achieved by adding Trichoderma sp. as a bioactivator.
