Preliminary experimental results on water breakdown in tens nanoseconds region
2011 IEEE International Conference on Dielectric Liquids, 2011Deionized water is a good dielectric material. In this paper, preliminary investigations are carried out on water breakdown in tens nanoseconds region via a switch with “point-plane” electrodes. The switch is set up on the output port of a wave erection Marx generator, which can deliver a minus high voltage pulse with an amplitude of 0∼300 kV, and a ...

Preliminary observations on the breakdown of coir in soil
Plant and Soil, 1979Coco fibres are used as a wrapper of plastic drain pipes. An investigation has been made of the decomposition of these fibres in soil. Unaffected and partly decayed fibres were washed and placed on cellulose-containing agar plates. Unaffected coir rarely showed growth. Around the partly decayed fibres nearly always fungi developed.

Communication robots are expected to help elderly people that live alone. However, it is difficult for existing conversation systems to communicate smoothly. One reason for this is that the robot cannot recognize conversation breakdowns.

Influence of Preliminary Electron Feeding on Breakdown of Air by Laser
Advanced Solid-State Photonics, 2009We examined the influence of preliminary feeding of electrons from the small breakdown produced by the femtosecond laser pulse into the breakdown produced by nanosecond laser pulse. We also observed the patterns of plasma emissions.

Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a technique for measuring surface matter composition. LIBS is performed by focusing laser radiation onto a target surface, ablating the surface, forming a plasma, and analyzing the light produced. LIBS surface analysis is a possible diagnostic for characterizing plasma-facing materials in ITER.

Calcium-induced proteolytic processes are considered key players in the progressive pathobiology of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Activation of calpain and caspases after TBI leads to the cleavage of cytoskeletal proteins such as non-erythroid alpha II-spectrin.

Propagation of preliminary breakdown pulses preceding cloud-to-ground lightning discharges
2015 1st URSI Atlantic Radio Science Conference (URSI AT-RASC), 2015A sequence of electromagnetic pulses lasting from a few milliseconds to several tens of milliseconds is usually observed prior to the first return stroke of a cloud-to-ground lightning flash. The sequence is composed of three parts. It begins with a group of relatively large bipolar pulses which are believed to be connected with preliminary breakdown ...

Modeling of thundercloud VHF/UHF radiation on the lightning preliminary breakdown stage
Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics, 2008It is well known that there are two basic parts of electromagnetic emissions from a thunderstorm cloud. The first one is due to a return stroke and the second is generated by microdischarges on the lightning preliminary stage and between successive return strokes.

AbstractThe partial synthesis of 10,22‐dihydro‐4,5‐dioxo‐4,5‐secopheophorbide a (1) from pheophorbide a methyl ester (2) is described. A regioselective, photooxygenolytic reaction of (pheophorbidato a methyl ester)cadmium(II)(3) provides the entry to the crucial 4,5‐secoporphinoid structure in form of the (10,22‐dihydro‐4,5‐dioxo‐4,5‐seco ...

Comparing Upward Negative Stepped Leader and Preliminary Breakdown Pulses
The study explores the characteristics of upward negative stepped leader pulses recorded at the Säntis Tower in Switzerland. Analysis of simultaneous channel-base current and 14.7-km vertical electric field data revealed two distinct types of pulses associated with upward negative stepped leaders [2].Category A pulses were characterized by ...Toma Oregel-Chaumont +4 more
