Neurobehavioral Disorder Associated With Prenatal Alcohol Exposure (ND-PAE): Review of Evidence and Guidelines for Assessment [PDF]
The effects of prenatal alcohol use have been well documented. In this review, we discuss the inclusion of Neurobehavioral Disorder Associated with Prenatal Alcohol Exposure (ND-PAE) as a condition for further study in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-Fifth Edition (DSM-5).

Validation of the ND-PAE Diagnosis in Children With Heavy Prenatal Alcohol Exposure
Abstract This study evaluated criteria for Neurobehavioral Disorder Associated with Prenatal Alcohol Exposure (ND-PAE). Kable et al. (2022) assessed the validity of this diagnosis in a sample with low exposure to alcohol. The current study expanded this assessment to a sample with a wider age range and heavier alcohol exposure.

Over the past 40 years, a significant body of animal and human research has documented the teratogenic effects of prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE). Neurobehavioral Disorder associated with PAE is proposed as a new clarifying term, intended to encompass the neurodevelopmental and mental health symptoms associated with PAE.

High Iron Diet During Prenatal Alcohol Exposure (PAE) May Normalize Iron Homeostasis in PAE Fetuses
The FASEB Journal, 2016Prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) is the leading cause of cognitive and learning defects. Previous studies in our lab have shown that iron deficiency (ID) during pregnancy exacerbates the behavioral and growth deficits of PAE. Rat fetuses that were both ID and exposed to PAE had increased liver iron stores but decreased brain iron, indicating an ...

Neurobehavioral disorder associated with prenatal alcohol exposure (ND_PAE) was proposed to capture the full range of mental health problems found in individuals who have been adversely impacted by their prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE). The disorder can be used with individuals who both have and do not have the physical symptoms of PAE.

Prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) alters limb development that may lead to structural and functional abnormalities of the limb reported in children diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. To determine whether PAE alters the central representation of the forelimb we used the rodent barrel cortex as our model system where it was possible to ...
