Ultracryotomy of biological tissues to preserve membrane structure [PDF]
ABSTRACT A vacuum transfer stage is described which permits visualization of ultracryotome sections without the considerable distortions found in sections which have either thawed or rehydrated after freeze drying. Membrane structure - nucleus, nucleolus, mitochondria with their cristae and plasma membrane - was observed only in cells at

Phenol and cresol as preservatives in biologic products
Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1922In the manufacture of serums, vaccines and other biologic products, it is customary to add phenol or cresol as a preservative. When added to serums, a precipitate forms, due to the interaction of the phenol or cresol with the serum proteins. Krumwiede and Banzhaf 1 developed a method of adding cresol to antitoxins which eliminated the precipitation of ...

25. Dry preservation of biological therapeutics
Cryobiology, 2013The fields of tissue engineering, cellular therapeutics, and transfusion medicine have matured considerably over the past decade, thus accelerating the need for cost-effective preservation methods to enable the ready supply of biological therapeutics. The current state of the art for preserving biological samples is by cryopreservation, either by slow ...

Preservation of DNA integrity in biological material
Forensic Science International: Genetics Supplement Series, 2019Abstract We have designed a buffer for preservation of DNA in biological material at room temperature. In this work we evaluated the integrity of DNA from saliva, stored for 4 years and blood stored for 4 months at room temperature. Parallel tests were conducted with other commercial systems. No sign of degradation was detected in the tested samples.
