Quantifying the effects of airflow distortion on anemometer wind speed measurements from merchant ships [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Anemometers on Voluntary Observing Ships (VOS) are usually located above the bridge in a region where the effects of air flow distortion, created by the presence of the ship, may be large.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Lattice Distortion and Phase Stability of Pd-Doped NiCoFeCr Solid-Solution Alloys

open access: yesEntropy, 2018
In the present study, we have revealed that (NiCoFeCr)100−xPdx (x= 1, 3, 5, 20 atom%) high-entropy alloys (HEAs) have both local- and long-range lattice distortions by utilizing X-ray total scattering, X-ray diffraction, and extended X-ray ...

Pressure-Induced Suppression of Static Disorder and Lattice Distortion in Pyrochlore Bi2Ru2O7

open access: yes
Bi2Ru2O7 is a weak metal pyrochlore with static disorder from lone-pair electrons. The suppression of static disorder can be observed by in situ Raman spectroscopy, and the abnormal turning point in resistivity can be found at high pressure.

Pressure flow field and inlet flow distortion metrics reconstruction from velocity data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Complex engine intakes are susceptible to unsteady flow distortions that may compromise the propulsion system operability. Hence, the need for high spatial and temporal resolution flow information is essential to aid the development of distortion ...

Carboxylic‐Acid Functionalized Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube‐Alkane‐Based Resistive Temperature Sensor for Cold Chain Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a reversible temperature sensor with high switching ratio, ∼103. The device is fabricated using PET‐ITO and carbon nanotube dispersions in alkane. Considering its application in cold chain logistics, a proof‐of‐concept with LED is showcased. Thus, a temperature drop below the threshold temperature (crystallization temperature of the

Mitigation of welding distortion and residual stresses via cryogenic CO2 cooling - a numerical investigation

open access: yes, 2008
Fusion welding remains the most common and convenient fabrication method for large, thinplate welded structures. However, the resulting tendency to out-of-plane distortion exacts severe design and fabrication penalties in terms of poorer buckling ...

Electrochemical Evaluation of Compressed Selective Laser Melted AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg Alloys in Chloride Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The corrosion performance of AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg alloys produced through selective laser melting (SLM) was examined under compressive stress in a chloride environment. Electrochemical analyses, including open‐circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarization (CPP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), were complemented by scanning ...
