Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Fluctuation pressure of a stack of membranes [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2001
We calculate the universal pressure constants of a stack of N membranes between walls by strong-coupling theory. The results are in very good agreement with values from Monte-Carlo simulations.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Numerical analysis of hull pressure fluctuation by rudder cavitation

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu, 2017
[Objectives] In order to demonstrate the serious vibration and noise rules of a ship's rudder surface, the pulsation pressure of the rudder cavitation is studied and analyzed.[Methods] Using Star-CCM fluid calculation software to simulate the test ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Investigation of Unsteady Aerodynamic Excitation on Rotor Blade of Variable Geometry Turbine

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2019
To investigate the aerodynamic excitations in variable geometry turbines, the full three-dimensional viscous unsteady numerical simulations were performed by solving N-S equations based on SAS SST method.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

ANALYSIS OF PRESSURE FLUCTUATION BEHAVIOR DURING THE RAIL GRINDING PROCESS

open access: yesJixie qiangdu, 2016
There is some grinding pressure fluctuation on the rail grinding train operation, which affects the uneven surface of grinding rail. The dynamic model of rail grinding vehicle was established which gave full consideration to the grinding mechanism’s ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
