A Numerical Investigation of the Influence of Geometric Parameters on the Performance of a Multi-Channel Confluent Water Supply

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Transportation efficiency is a problem of particular interest in multi-channel confluent water supply engineering. Transportation efficiency depends not only on the system control strategy but also on the pressure loss (pressure difference between the ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Flow Loss Analysis and Structural Optimization of Multiway Valves for Integrated Thermal Management Systems in Electric Vehicles

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
The multiway valve is the core component of the integrated thermal management system in an electric vehicle, and its heat transfer loss and pressure loss significantly impact the performance of the whole thermal management system.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

One-Dimensional Modeling of the Pressure Loss in Concrete Pumping and Experimental Verification

open access: yesApplied Sciences
An accurate formula for calculating the pressure loss in concrete pumping plays a significant guiding role in the design and service process of pump trucks.

Teach Second Law of Thermodynamics via Analysis of Flow through Packed Beds and Consolidated Porous Media

open access: yesFluids, 2019
The second law of thermodynamics is indispensable in engineering applications. It allows us to determine if a given process is feasible or not, and if the given process is feasible, how efficient or inefficient is the process.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

On the effects of flow pulsation upon the performance of flow deflector for catalytic converter

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2017
In automobile-exhaust systems, catalytic converters are the main components to produce substantial pressure drops, which induce engine-power loss and fuel-consumption rise. In addition to the need to reduce the pressure loss, the flow passing through the

Loss aversion under pressure

open access: yesJournal of Human Sport and Exercise
This study examines loss aversion behaviour in professional tennis, with a focus on players’ responses to high-stakes situations such as game points and break points. While prior research has provided valuable insights, it has predominantly relied on limited match samples, often confined to select tournaments or individual players.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
