Maximizing of the Energy Generation by Pressure Retarded Osmosis

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2015
The mass transport is analyzed in this paper in order to achieve the maximum value of the power generation applying pressure retarded osmosis. Energy generation is determined by the water transport rate which is strongly influenced by the salt flux.

Water–Energy Nexus: Membrane Engineering Towards a Sustainable Development [PDF]

open access: yesMembranes
Sustainable development is linked to the achievement of several different objectives, as outlined by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations. Among them are the production of clean water and the combat of climate change,

Feasibility of thin film nanocomposite membranes for clean energy using pressure retarded osmosis and reverse electrodialysis

open access: yesEnergy Nexus, 2022
Power generation from renewable energy sources is becoming increasingly significant as global energy consumption increases. The non-renewable energy sources we use now are on the verge of extinction.

Pool pressure‐retarded osmosis [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Energy Research, 2020
In this work, consideration is given for pressure-retarded osmosis (PRO) system in a pool configuration. The motivation behind of such a configuration lies in the possibility to eliminate mechanical moving parts or energy recovery systems—as for example pressure exchangers (PEXs), which are needed in traditional PRO systems.

Theoretical Analysis of a Mathematical Relation between Driving Pressures in Membrane-Based Desalting Processes

open access: yesMembranes, 2021
Osmotic and hydraulic pressures are both indispensable for operating membrane-based desalting processes, such as forward osmosis (FO), pressure-retarded osmosis (PRO), and reverse osmosis (RO).

Techno-Economic Analysis towards Full-Scale Pressure Retarded Osmosis Plants

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
Pressure retarded osmosis (PRO) is a power generation process that harnesses the salinity gradient between two water bodies of different salinities. Using high salinity water as a draw solution, this work assesses the techno-economic feasibility of the ...

Comparison between pressure retarded osmosis model using batch and continuous water supply sources [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2021
Pressure retarded osmosis (PRO) is a novel renewable energy technology that generates electricity from two water sources. Due to the osmotic pressure difference, freshwater permeates across a membrane to the other side, where the high-pressure seawater ...
