Finite pressure equilibrium effects on helical ripple transport in torsatrons

Nuclear Fusion, 1988
A three-dimensional equilibrium code (NEAR) is used to study plasma equilibrium in torsatron configurations having various winding laws. The harmonic spectra describing the variation of || along magnetic field lines are calculated at finite plasma pressure and then used to calculate the geometric factors that determine the magnitudes of the ...

Roughness Attenuation and Pressure Rippling in EHL Contacts

2006
Surface roughness tends to reduce the life of EHL contacts and from the early work of Tallian onwards it has been recognized that the mechanism is via the production of pressure fluctuations in the conjunction.

Pressure and Traction Rippling in Elastohydrodynamic Contact of Rough Surfaces

Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1974
Local variations in asperity dimensions (rippling) of elastohydrodynamic (EHD) pressure are calculated using Christensen’s stochastic model of the hydrodynamics of heavily loaded two-dimensional contacts between rough surfaces. Pressure ripple amplitudes of the order of the maximum Hertz pressure, i.e., well in excess of 105 psi (69.107 N/m2) are ...

Tight trough ripple marks; pressure-solution modification of primary structures

Journal of Sedimentary Research, 1984
Abstract Ripple-mark-like structures with rounded crests and tight troughs are preserved in delta-margin sandstones of the Cerro Huerta Formation (Upper Cretaceous) in northeastern Mexico. The structures resemble substratal ripple-mark impressions and mullion structures.

Power Density Performance Improvements for High Pressure Ripple Energy Harvesting

Volume 2: Mechanics and Behavior of Active Materials; Structural Health Monitoring; Bioinspired Smart Materials and Systems; Energy Harvesting, 2013
A hydraulic pressure energy harvester (HPEH) device, which utilizes a housing to isolate a piezoelectric stack from the hydraulic fluid via a mechanical interface, generates power by converting the dynamic pressure within the system into electricity.

A Consideration on the Behavior of Hydraulic Pressure Ripples in Relation to Hydraulic Oil Temperature

ASME/BATH 2015 Symposium on Fluid Power and Motion Control, 2015
It is well known that hydraulic noise can change as a system warms up. That change can be a factor for misperception of mechanical failure, because noise can play an important role as a signal that indicates abnormal operation. It is therefore important to understand the behavior of hydraulic pressure ripples that are a source of hydraulic noise in ...

Theoretical analysis of pressure and flow ripple in flexible hoses containing tuners

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part I: Journal of Systems and Control Engineering, 1998
Abstract In automotive power steering systems it is common practice to include highly expandible hoses containing tubular inserts, referred to as tuners, to minimize the pump-generated pressure ripple. A theoretical model of a flexible hose containing a tuner is described, which can be used to compute the fluid-borne noise ...

On pressure disturbance waves in channels: Solitons, jets and ripples

2015
Pressure disturbance waves are computed via a fully nonlinear, unsteady, boundary integral formulation for various Froude and Bond numbers. Three moving pressure distributions are introduced in the numerical model to evaluate the produced near and far-field wave patterns in a channel.
