Fundamental Study on Particle Transportation by Pressure Waves in Pipes—The Characteristics of Particle Transportation— [Translated]†

open access: yesKONA Powder and Particle Journal, 2014
This study investigates the development of new technology for particle transportation in pipes with cyclic pressure waves. The flow is not steady because progressive and reflective pressure waves do exist in pipes ...

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

Experimental Study on Pressure Wave Propagation in Mine Ventilation Disasters

open access: yesGeoHazards
This study experimentally investigates the propagation characteristics of static pressure waves (S-waves) and dynamic pressure waves (D-waves) induced by coal and gas outbursts of varying intensities, utilizing a self-built 1:30 scaled laboratory mine ...

Limitations of the Use of Pressure Waves to Verify Correct Epidural Needle Position in Dogs

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine International, 2013
The use of pressure waves to confirm the correct position of the epidural needle has been described in several domestic species and proposed as a valid alternative to standard methods, namely, control radiographic exam and fluoroscopy. The object of this

Propagation of Pressure Waves, Caused by a Thermal Shock, in Liquid Metals Containing Gas Bubbles

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2008
The propagation of pressure waves caused by a thermal shock in liquid mercury containing micro gas bubbles has been simulated numerically. In the present study, we clarify the influences of the introduced bubble size and void fraction on the absorption ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Experimental Study on the Impact of Landslide-Generated Waves against Wharf Pile

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2020
Landslide-generated waves have caused great catastrophic damage to the infrastructure, e.g., dam and wharf, because of the extreme loading in the reservoir area, while the wharf pile is rarely designed to withstand the loading associated with landslide ...

Decay of Weak Pressure Waves in a Low Pressure Tube.

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series B, 1996
In this study, the characteristics of pressure wave propagation in a vacuum tube have been investigated experimentally from the viewpoint of vacuum protection in the beamlines of a synchrotron radiation facility. Baffle plates having a single orifice of 5, 10 or 15 mm in diameter were installed in shock tubes 5 m in length and 36.6 or 68.8 mm in ...
