Bond modelling of prestressed concrete during the prestressing force release [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials and Structures, 2010
This paper presents an analytical model for simulating the bond between steel and concrete, in precast prestressed concrete elements, during the prestressing force release. The model establishes a relationship between bond stress, steel and concrete stress and slip in such concrete structures.

Prestress Loss of CFL in a Prestressing Process for Strengthening RC Beams

open access: yesInternational Journal of Polymer Science, 2017
A prestressing system was designed to strengthen reinforced concrete (RC) beams with prestressed carbon fiber laminate (CFL). During different prestressing processes, prestress loss was measured using strain gauges attached on the surface of CFL along ...

Influence of confining prestress on the transition from interface defeat to penetration in ceramic targets

open access: yesDefence Technology, 2016
Replica scaled impact experiments with unconfined ceramic targets have shown that the transition velocity, i.e., the impact velocity at which interface defeat ceases and ceramic penetration occurs, decreased as the length scale increased.

Study on microscopic pores and physico-mechanical properties of red clay modified by calcium carbonate

open access: yesScientific Reports
Red clay as a special soil has a high liquid-plastic limit, water swelling and water loss shrinkage. To solve the problems red clay was modified by calcium carbonate produced in Hezhou, Guangxi.

Prestress loss of prestressing tendons with asymmetrical layout parabolas [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 5th International Conference on Civil Engineering and Transportation 2015, 2015
According to the equilibrium condition of geometry relationship, we derived the formulas that can be used to calculate the loss of prestress of prestressing tendons with the double-end tensioning and the asymmetrical arrangement parabolic curves.

Topology and Material Optimization in Ultra‐Soft Magneto‐Active Structures: Making Advantage of Residual Anisotropies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Residual magnetization induces pronounced mechanical anisotropy in ultra‐soft magnetorheological elastomers, shaping deformation and actuation even without external magnetic fields. This study introduces a computational‐experimental framework integrating magneto‐mechanical coupling into topology optimization for designing soft magnetic actuators with ...

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.
