Taming the Immiscibility of Gold, Iron, and Boron to Craft Chemodegradable Nanoparticles for Multimodal Imaging and Radiotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Over half of cancer patients undergo radiotherapy. Laser ablation enabled the synthesis of immiscible Au‐Fe‐B nanoparticles designed as degradable bimodal radiosensitizers for X‐ray radiotherapy (XRT), boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT), and bimodal imaging for X‐ray computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These nanosensitizers

A Markov model of Diabetic Retinopathy Progression for the Economic Evaluation of a novel DR prognostic device, CHERE Working Paper 2007/14 [PDF]

open access: yes
The initial diagnosis of Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is often in the advance stages of the condition, as patients are only promoted for an examination when sight has been affected.

3D‐Printed Titanium Implants with Bioactive Peptide‐Polysaccharide Scaffolds for Personalized Bone Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Porous 3D‐printed titanium implants are made bioactive by integration with a supramolecular peptide‐hyaluronic acid nanofibrillar scaffold, without the addition of exogenous cells or growth factors. Uniform filling of the implant architecture promotes vascularized, spatially homogeneous bone regeneration, significantly enhancing osteogenesis throughout

Lessons from the Moroccan National Trachoma Control Programme

open access: yesCommunity Eye Health Journal, 2004
In 1992, the Moroccan Programme for the Prevention of Blindness (Programme Marocain de Lutte contre la Cécité) completed a nationwide survey of the prevalence of visual impairment and its causes in Morocco. Since then, the prevention of trachoma has been

Zinc‐Containing Bioactive Glass Programs Macrophage Polarization through Extracellular Traps Regulation for Enhanced Diabetic Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Zinc‐containing bioactive glass (ZnBG) promotes diabetic wound healing by regulating macrophage extracellular traps (METs). Specifically, ZnBG reduces oxidative stress and inhibits the PAD4 and NLRP3/caspase‐1/GSDMD signaling pathways, thereby suppressing MET formation.

Ultrasound‐Triggered Nanobubbles for Endothelial‐Targeted Drug Delivery in the Detection and Treatment of Doxorubicin‐Induced Cardiotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The DA/VTP‐NBs selectively recognized cardiac ECs damaged by DIC and achieved cell‐level targeted imaging. Then US‐triggered controlled release successfully enabled the release of DAPA within the DA/VTP‐NBs at the site of injury. This precise on‐demand drug release approach amplifies a series of localized therapeutic effects through the mtDNA‐mediated ...

Prevention of blindness and priorities for the future

open access: yesBulletin of the World Health Organization, 2001
The impact of visual loss has profound implications for the person affected and society as a whole. The majority of blind people live in developing countries, and generally, their blindness could have been avoided or cured.
