Establishing a Biophotonic Signature of Brain Ageing

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 11, November 2026.
If we excite autofluorescence from brains with a 488 nm laser, young brain autofluorescence shows blue‐shifted spectra; aged brain autofluorescence shows red‐shifted spectra. This spectral shift is predicted by plasma SM32:2 levels. These signals allow unbiased distinction of an ageing from a young brain.

Draft Whole-Genome Sequences of Periodontal Pathobionts Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, and Tannerella forsythia Contain Phase-Variable Restriction-Modification Systems

open access: yes, 2017
Periodontal disease comprises mild to severe inflammatory host responses to oral bacteria that can cause destruction of the tooth-supporting tissue. We report genome sequences for 18 clinical isolates of Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia,

Antimicrobial Resistance in Periodontal Disease: Rethinking Adjunctive Therapy in the Metagenomics Era, the Pressing Need for Precision Treatment and Periodontal Resistome Mapping

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 30, Issue 21, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Systemic antibiotics are effective when used as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of periodontitis; however, their use must be balanced against antimicrobial resistance, which is a major threat to global public health. This review provides an expert synthesis of the literature and a field‐level overview of antimicrobial resistance in ...

Simultaneous detection of Bacteroides forsythus and Prevotella intermedia by 16S rDNA directed multiplex PCR

open access: yes, 1999
In a 16S rRNA gene-directed multiplex PCR, Prevotella intermedia- and Bacteroides forsythus-specific reverse primers were combined with a single conserved forward primer.

Efficacy of Clematis chinensis Osbeck extract mouthwash as a complementary therapy for halitosis: A randomized, double-blind controlled trial

open access: yesComplementary Therapies in Medicine
Background: Chlorhexidine is a standard agent for halitosis control but has notable adverse effects; therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a Clematis chinensis Osbeck (C. chinensis Osbeck) extract mouthwash on halitosis and related

Lemierre syndrome with pulmonary empyema caused by Prevotella intermedia

open access: yesBMJ Case Reports
Lemierre syndrome is a rare disease that is most often caused by Fusobacterium necrophorum. We present a case caused by Prevotella intermedia in a young, healthy man, complicated by multiple cavitary lung lesions, loculated pleural effusions requiring chest tube placement and trapezius abscess. Our case highlights (a) P.

Phenotypic identification of periodontal Prevotella intermedia/nigrescens group isolates validated by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry

open access: yes, 2018
The accuracy of a phenotypic scheme to recognize periodontal Prevotella intermedia/nigrescens group clinical isolates on primary isolation culture plates was assessed with matrix-assisted laser desorption-ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry ...

Correlation between Prevotella intermedia and intraoral metal alloys

open access: yesKorean Journal of Orthodontics
We investigated the potential association between intraoral metal alloys and the presence of Prevotella intermedia in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).A case-control study was conducted using bacteriological tests. The RA group included 80 patients, of whom 40 tested positive for Prevotella intermedia and 40 tested negative.
