Prevotella intermedia Aggravates Subclinical Hypothyroidism
Journal of Dental Research, 2023Subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) has been shown to be associated with microbiota. However, the association between SCH and oral microbiota has not yet been elucidated. The results of our previous clinical studies showed that Prevotella intermedia was abundant in the oral microbiota of SCH patients.

Introduction: The Prevotella intermedia group bacteria, namely P. intermedia, Prevotella nigrescens, and Prevotella pallens, are phylogenetically closely related and potentially connected with oral and gastrointestinal tract disease pathogenesis. The aim

Degradation of human hemoglobin by Prevotella intermedia
Anaerobe, 2006In this study, the ability of Prevotella intermedia, an obligate anaerobic rod, to degrade human hemoglobin was determined by SDS-PAGE and the degradation was quantified by scanning densitometry. Both bacterial cells and culture supernatants degraded hemoglobin. The hemoglobin degradation by P.

Glucose metabolism by Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens
Oral Microbiology and Immunology, 2000Glucose metabolism by Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens were investigated. Glucose increased the anaerobic growth of these bacteria and promoted the accumulation of intracellular polysaccharide. The polysaccharide was confirmed to be glycogen‐like glucan by the absorption spectrum of iodine‐polysaccharide complex and the sugar composition.

The gram‐negative, anaerobic bacterium Prevotella intermedia plays an important role in the progression of periodontitis, whereas the etiological role of the closely related but phenotypically indistinguishable species Prevotella nigrescens is controversial.

Prevotella intermedia fimbriae mediate hemagglutination
Oral Microbiology and Immunology, 1996Our earlier studies demonstrated that clinical strains of Prevotella intermedia, isolated from human periodontal pockets, possess various types of fimbria (surface appendages) as determined ultrastructurally. These bacteria have the ability to agglutinate selected mammalian erythrocytes.

Pyogenic vertebral osteomyelitis caused by Prevotella intermedia
Journal of Infection and Chemotherapy, 2002We describe a case of vertebral osteomyelitis caused by Prevotella intermedia, which is an extremely unusual cause of vertebral osteomyelitis. The organism was isolated from vertebral biopsies and the patient was treated successfully with intravenous ampicillin-sulbactam and clindamycin. Diagnosis and management of this condition are described, and the

Identification of hemolytic activity in Prevotella intermedia
Oral Microbiology and Immunology, 1998Hemolysin production was measured in strains of Prevotella intermedia. Zones of beta‐hemolysis were detected on agar plates supplemented with either sheep, rabbit or human erythrocytes. A standard tube assay was performed on cell suspensions of the organism to measure hemolytic activity, which was found to be dose dependent, eliminated by heat ...
