Intra‐familial transmission and distribution of Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens

Journal of Periodontal Research, 1997
The periodontal bacteria Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens have been recently separated from each other. The purpose of this study was to investigate the distribution and routes of transmission of these bacteria among family members. Seven patients with moderate to severe periodontitis were selected.

Hydrolytic and depolymerising enzyme activity of Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens

Oral Diseases, 1996
OBJECTIVE: Prevotella intermedia has been reported to be associated with periodontal disease whilst P. nigrescens has predominantly been isolated from more specific conditions and healthy sites. The aim of the present study was to compare the enzyme activity of these species.MATERIALS AND METHODS Nine strains of P.

Pathways for amino acid metabolism by Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens

Oral Microbiology and Immunology, 2000
Pathways for amino acid metabolism by Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens were investigated. Prevotella strains grew anaerobically in tryptone‐based medium and their growth increased upon the addition of aspartate to the medium. Washed cells of tryptone‐grown strains metabolized aspartate to succinate, acetate, fumarate, malate, formate and

Distribution and genetic analysis of oral Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens

Oral Microbiology and Immunology, 1996
A total of 344 Prevotella intermedia and nigrescens group isolates from 59 subjects were identified by hybridization with nonradioactively labeled species‐specific oligonucleotide probes. Identification of 20 P. intermedia and 46 P. nigrescens isolates was confirmed by analyzing the electrophoretic mobilities of malate and glutamate dehydrogenase ...

The Relationship of Prevotella intermedia, Prevotella nigrescensand Prevotella melaninogenica in the Supragingival Plaque of Children, Caries and Oral Malodor

Journal of Clinical Pediatric Dentistry, 2008
Purpose: A relationship between the distribution of periodontal bacteria species and malodor in children has not been sufficiently investigated. The present study was undertaken to determine the presence of 3 periodontopathic bacteria (Prevotella spp. P. intermedia, P. nigrescens, P.

Contribution of hly homologs to the hemolytic activity of Prevotella intermedia

Anaerobe, 2012
Prevotella intermedia is a periodontal pathogen that requires iron for its growth. Although this organism has hemolytic activity, the precise nature of its hemolytic substances and their associated hemolytic actions are yet to be fully determined. In the present study, we identified and characterized several putative hly genes in P.

Multiple extracellular phospholipase activities from Prevotella intermedia

Anaerobe, 2009
Enzyme preparations obtained from Prevotella intermedia culture supernatants were partially purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation and ion-exchange column chromatography. Hydrolytic activities were revealed by an assay that uses silicic acid thin layer chromatography to separate the products derived from (14)C-labeled phosphatidyl-choline (PC ...

Prevotella intermedia and periodontitis are associated with severe asthma

Journal of Periodontology, 2019
AbstractBackgroundPeriodontitis, an inflammatory disease of multibacterial etiology that affects the protective and supporting tissues surrounding teeth, can influence the course of respiratory diseases, such as asthma, due to epithelial alterations arising from inflammatory and immunological processes, bronchial remodeling, or by the aspiration of ...

Presence and antibiotic resistance of Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, and Prevotella nigrescens in children

Journal of Clinical Periodontology, 2002
AbstractBackground/aims: Only limited information exists about the prevalence in children of pathogens associated with periodontitis. The aim of the present study was to determine by culture whether 8–11‐year‐old children carry Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, and/or P.
