Fumarate and nitrite reduction by Prevotella nigrescens and Prevotella buccae isolated from Chronic Periodontitis patients

Microbial Pathogenesis, 2023
This study is an investigation of anaerobic nitrite and fumarate reduction/respiration abilities of two characterised Prevotella species namely Prevotella nigrescens (SS6B) and Prevotella buccae (GS6B) isolated from the periodontal pockets of chronic periodontitis (ChP) patients.Isolation and identification of the periodontal bacteria from 20 patients ...

Presence and antibiotic resistance of Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, and Prevotella nigrescens in children

Journal of Clinical Periodontology, 2002
AbstractBackground/aims: Only limited information exists about the prevalence in children of pathogens associated with periodontitis. The aim of the present study was to determine by culture whether 8–11‐year‐old children carry Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, and/or P.

The identification of genes specific to Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens using genomic subtractive hybridization

Anaerobe, 2010
Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens, which are often isolated from periodontal sites, were once considered two different genotypes of P. intermedia. Although the genomic sequence of P. intermedia was determined recently, little is known about the genetic differences between P. intermedia and P. nigrescens.

β‐lactamase‐producing strains in the species Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens

Oral Microbiology and Immunology, 1998
A total of 96 strains were collected that included laboratory strains and clinical isolates classified Prevotella intermedia sensu lato and the type strains of the species P. intermedia sensu stricto and Prevotella nigrescens. Susceptibility to amoxicillin and amoxicillin‐clavulanic acid was determined by the Etest.

Effects of zinc and copper on adhesion and hemagglutination of Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens

Oral Microbiology and Immunology, 2005
This study investigated the mechanism of protein attachment to the surface of the putative periodontal pathogens Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens in artificial gingival crevicular fluid, and ways to increase protein attachment to the bacterial cells.

In vitro activation of the hemolysin in Prevotella nigrescens ATCC 33563 and Prevotella intermedia ATCC 25611

Research in Microbiology, 2004
Hemolytic activity was evaluated in the putative periodontopathogens Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens. Whole cells of both species present weak hemolytic activity evidenced only by solid media assays after 48 h of bacterial growth or after 5 h of interaction with erythrocytes at 37 degrees C in liquid assays.

Detection of Porphyromonas gingivalis, Porphyromonas endodontalis, Prevotella intermedia, and Prevotella nigrescens in chronic endodontic infection

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Endodontology, 2007
Black-pigmented anaerobic rods such as Prevotella spp. and Porphyromonas spp. are involved in the etiology and perpetuation of endodontic infections. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of these species in chronic endodontic infections by using culture and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniques.

Characterization of Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens Isolates From Periodontic and Endodontic Infections

Journal of Periodontology, 1994
The occurrence and surface properties of Prevotella intermedia and P. nigrescens in healthy sites and in periodontic and endodontic infections were studied among 73 strains, tentatively identified as P. intermedia. Fifteen strains were from necrotic root canal infections, 41 were from periodontal samples, and 17 isolates were obtained from healthy ...

Pathogenicity of Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens isolates in a wound chamber model in rabbits

Oral Microbiology and Immunology, 1997
The pathogenicity of 14 isolates identified as Prevotella intermedia or Prevotella nigrescens by serogrouping using monoclonal antibodies was compared in a tissue cage model in rabbits. Seven strains from periodontal abscesses, 5 strains from deep periodontal pockets and 2 strains from gingivitis were tested in the animal model comprising 6 Teflon ...
