Emperor goose fall–winter harvest monitoring and hunter's perspectives in Alaska
Monitoring harvests and understanding hunters' perspectives are part of effective management of fall‐winter emperor goose hunting in Alaska. After evaluating participation in the hunting permit program and surveying permit holders, we recommended the following steps to finetune harvest management: actions to increase participation by rural hunters in ...

Biological and environmental covariates of juvenile sockeye salmon distribution and abundance in the southeastern Bering Sea, 2002-2018. [PDF]
This manuscript describes changes in the distribution and abundance of juvenile sockeye salmon from Bristol Bay, the world's largest run of sockeye salmon, in relation to spatio‐temporal and temporal changes in prey, competitors, and temperature. Spatio‐temporally varying densities of juvenile sockeye salmon varied with sea temperature, age‐0 pollock ...

Flexural Response to Erosional Unloading of Continental Margins: An Example From the Bering Sea, USA
Abstract The geodynamic response of continental margins to erosion may reveal current and past changes in the location of the continental slope. We model the three‐dimensional isostatic response to erosion along the retreating Beringian Margin to test the hypothesis that the margin and its canyons were dominantly eroded during the Pleistocene.

Brucellosis in Marine Mammals: Meta-Analysis of Prevalence, Infection Patterns, Host Specificity and Zoonotic Potential. [PDF]
Marine brucellosis shows high prevalence in cetaceans (52%), followed by other marine mammals (30%) and pinnipeds (18%), indicating species‐specific susceptibility. These findings highlight the need for targeted surveillance and diagnostic strategies to mitigate ecological and zoonotic risks.

Wide continental shelves are thought to act as capacitors characterised by transient sediment storage during sea‐level rise and sediment remobilisation during sea‐level fall. This study attempts to test the hypothesis that sea‐level lowstand yields more efficient and direct sediment transfer from riverine sources to deep‐sea sinks compared to highstand

Foraging responses of black-legged kittiwakes to prolonged food-shortages around colonies on the Bering Sea shelf. [PDF]
We hypothesized that changes in southeastern Bering Sea foraging conditions for black-legged kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla) have caused shifts in habitat use with direct implications for population trends.

Conservation status, threats, and information needs of small mammals in Alaska
We assessed the conservation status of 36 small mammal species in Alaska, USA. Most species (86%) were of moderately high conservation priority. Our findings highlight the need to monitor population trends and underscore the importance of accounting for data deficiencies to avoid conflating sparse information with low conservation priority.

Inter-cohort cannibalism of early benthic phase blue king crabs (Paralithodes platypus): alternate foraging strategies in different habitats lead to different functional responses. [PDF]
Blue king crabs (Paralithodes platypus) are commercially and ecologically important in Alaska, USA, but population abundances have fluctuated over the past several decades likely resulting from a combination of environmental and biological factors ...

Seabirds as a subsistence and cultural resource in two remote Alaskan communities
Small rural Alaskan communities face many challenges surrounding rapid social and ecological change. The role of local subsistence resources may change over time because of changes in social perception, economic need, and cultural patterns of use.
