Selective Hedging, Information Asymmetry, and Futures Prices*

The Journal of Business, 2006
Evidence from hedging practices suggests that firms will hedge only if they expect that unfavorable events will arise. In markets with a significant degree of information asymmetry in which hedgers are oligopolists with superior knowledge concerning supply and demand, such as oil and gas futures, we contend that these companies will selectively hedge ...

Monetary Asmmetries Without (and with) Price Stickiness

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2023
AbstractThe evidence suggests that monetary policy transmission is asymmetric over the business cycle. Interacting financing frictions with a preference for liquidity provides an explanation for this fact. Our model reproduces a set of asset market and business cycle facts.

Price asymmetries in the US airline industry

Financial Review, 2022
AbstractWe document price asymmetries in the US airline industry. We find evidence that the average airfare increases in response to rising fuel cost but does not decrease in response to declining fuel cost. In searching for the cause of price asymmetries, we find that common ownership, measured by overlapping institutional investors, is associated ...

“Asymmetric asymmetries” in Eurozone markets gasoline pricing

The Journal of Economic Asymmetries, 2016
Abstract Building on the well-established “rockets and feathers” literature and on the recently developed nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) modelling, we investigate the asymmetries in gasoline pricing in a comprehensive sample of monthly data from twelve Eurozone countries from 1999:1 to 2015:12.

Price Asymmetries in the Demand for Energy

1987
In the decades prior to 197 3, real energy prices were flat or gradually declining and aggregate energy use grew roughly in proportion to economic activity. Between 1973 and 1981, energy price increases were pervasive and as a direct result the growth in energy use was significantly reduced or reversed.

A NOTE ON THE EFFECT OF ASYMMETRY ON REVENUE IN SECOND-PRICE AUCTIONS

International Game Theory Review, 2012
We compare the seller's expected revenue in asymmetric second-price auctions with the benchmark case where all bidders have the average distribution. We show that with two bidders, asymmetry has a negative effect on revenue. However, for n > 2 bidders there is no clear observation we can make.

Price Asymmetry in the International Wheat Market

Canadian Journal of Agricultural Economics/Revue canadienne d'agroeconomie, 1995
Most wheat exports are accounted for by a limited number of countries with different policy regimes and specializing, for the most part, in particular classes of wheat. Under these circumstances, there is likely to be considerable interaction among the major exporting countries in the determination of wheat prices. In this paper, price linkages between

Incentive Pricing for Irrigation Water with Information Asymmetries

2014
In accordance with the European Water Framework Directive (WFD), the management of water resources should be delegated to appropriately established local bodies, referred to as River Basin Districts (Bogaert 2012). Basin Districts are responsible for the full cost of water usage in order to ensure the good hydrological status of the territory under ...

Location and Price Competition with Cost Asymmetries

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2005
Under Bertrand competition, we can obtain either; maximal or intermediate horizontal differentiation, or monopolistic competition, by introducing varying degrees of firm marginal cost asymmetries. With sufficient asymmetries, we find that the low cost firm wishes to move close to the high cost firm while the high cost firm would prefer to maximally ...

Asset pricing with return asymmetries

2014
