Primary frequency control by wind turbines
IEEE PES General Meeting, 2010The speed of modern converter controlled wind turbines is almost completely decoupled from the grid frequency. Accordingly, wind turbines do not possess a natural response to frequency excursions. In this paper three different control concepts that enable wind turbines to participate on grid frequency control are introduced.

Primary Frequency Control in Isolated Microgrids Using Thermostatically Controllable Loads
IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, 2021Hybrid renewable energy sources (RES)-diesel systems are now being considered as an economic, attractive and clean option for remote isolated microgrids, to offset diesel consumption by displacing generation from conventional units; however, system security and stability is a challenge as the penetration of RES increases.

Decentralized Demand-Side Contribution to Primary Frequency Control
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2011Frequency in large power systems is usually controlled by adjusting the production of generating units in response to changes in the load. As the amount of intermittent renewable generation increases and the proportion of flexible conventional generating units decreases, a contribution from the demand side to primary frequency control becomes ...

Primary load-frequency control from pitch-controlled wind turbines
2009 IEEE Bucharest PowerTech, 2009In this paper, an operating strategy is suggested for the participation of variable speed, variable pitch wind generators (VSVPWG) in primary load-frequency regulation through pitch-control. The proposed strategy is mathematically precise and neither direct wind measurement as a control input, nor any linearization of the system are required. The above
