Primary Productivity and Habitat Depth Shape Developmental Mode in European Marine Gastropods [PDF]
Prolonged larval development in marine gastropods is less frequent in high latitudes, with non‐pelagic larval development much more common in these regions. This pattern has been historically referred to in biogeography as the Thorson's rule.

Changes in shelf phosphorus burial during the Hirnantian glaciation and its implications [PDF]
The Late Ordovician mass extinction occurred during an icehouse interval, accompanied by the glaciation of the supercontinent Gondwana, which was located at the South Pole at that time.

Submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) in high volcanic islands can be an important source of freshwater and nutrients to coral reefs. High inorganic nutrient content is generally thought to augment primary production in coastal systems but when this is ...

Estimates of primary production represent the input of carbon into food webs, as well as the initial step in the biological pump. For the past 60 years, much of the productivity information has been obtained using measurements of 14C-bicarbonate removal ...

Spatial and Temporal Variations of Chlorophyll a and Primary Productivity in the Hangzhou Bay
The Hangzhou Bay (HZB) is an important part of the Zhoushan fishing ground, the most productive region in the Eastern China Seas. Although HZB remains eutrophication all year round, its chlorophyll a (Chl) and primary productivity (PP) are usually ...

Global primary production [PDF]
The idea of planting trees to reduce carbon emissions is often discussed. The scope of the problem can be nicely illuminated at the global scale. If all land use changes of the previous two centuries were reversed, then carbon accumulation in the atmosphere would be 80 PgC less than the present, leading to a global cooling of 0.4°C.
