Object grasping and manipulation in capuchin monkeys (genera Cebus and Sapajus) [PDF]
The abilities to perform skilled hand movements and to manipulate objects dexterously are landmarks in the evolution of primates. The study of how primates use their hands to grasp and manipulate objects in accordance with their needs sheds light on how ...

Restoring Iron Homeostasis via Smoothened Inhibition: A Novel Strategy Against Hearing Loss
. ABSTRACT Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) induced by noise or aminoglycoside antibiotics is a significant public health concern without any FDA‐approved pharmaceutical therapies. Dysregulation of iron homeostasis and its subsequently induced ferroptosis has increasingly been identified as a key mechanism underlying cochlear hair cell (HC) damage ...

We studied how five common immunosuppressants behave when delivered directly to a transplant site instead of systemically. Using a vascularized implant for islet transplantation, we show that local delivery protects grafts, limits drug spread to the rest of the body, and produces distinct immune signatures.

Vocal communication of White-footed Tamarin (Saguinus leucopus) in the wild
The white-footed tamarin, Saguinus leucopus, is an endemic primate of Colombia whose vocal communication has been little studied. For a period of a month we applied behavior sampling with continuous record, recording tamarins’ vocalizations, and the ...

Core promoter short tandem repeats as evolutionary switch codes for primate speciation [PDF]
Alteration in gene expression levels underlies many of the phenotypic differences across species. Because of their highly mutable nature, proximity to the +1 transcription start site (TSS), and the emerging evidence of functional impact on gene ...

Lymphoid‐Tissue‐on‐Chip Recapitulates Human Antibody Responses In Vitro
The presented lymphoid‐tissue‐on‐chip system allows culture of primary human tonsil cells at organotypic high density under perfusion for up to 4 weeks, emulates immune response to soluble vaccines and vaccination via peripheral antigen‐presenting cells and represents a useful tool to assess cellular interactions during homeostasis, immune responses ...

Categorization and conceptual behavior in nonhuman primates [PDF]
This essay describes some of the studies that have been carried out in the past 5 years with two species of baboons, both in laboratory-controlled conditions (Guinea baboons, Papio papio) and in outdoor settings (olive baboons, Papio anubis)

The inhibitory immune checkpoints HLA‐G and CD47 are expressed on certain tumor types and inhibit immune cells in the tumor microenvironment. DSP216 binds specifically to cancer cells expressing both HLA‐G and CD47, and blocks their inhibitory signaling.

La dieta de los monos araña (Ateles spp.) está compuesta en un 90% por frutos maduros. Los monos araña podrían utilizar las cualidades dulce-ácida de las especies de frutos para evaluarlos y aceptarlos por medio del uso del sentido del gusto.
