Predictors of response and rational combinations for the novel MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665 in acute myeloid leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study characterizes the responses of primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patient samples to the MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665. The results revealed that monocytic differentiation is associated with MIK665 sensitivity. Conversely, elevated ABCB1 expression is a potential biomarker of resistance to the treatment, which can be overcome by the combination ...

TGF-β trap of AdAPT-001 turns up the heat on tumors and turns down checkpoint blocker resistance

open access: yesJournal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer
At the ASCO 2024 meeting, Anthony P Conley, coauthor on this editorial, presented promising data from the phase 1/2 clinical trial called BETA PRIME (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04673942) with AdAPT-001 plus a checkpoint inhibitor (CI).

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

New Evidence for a Flux-independent Spectral Index of Sgr A* in the Near-infrared

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
In this work, we measure the spectral index of Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*) between the H (1.6 μ m) and $K^{\prime} $ (2.2 μ m) broadband filters in the near-infrared (NIR), sampling over a factor ∼40 in brightness, the largest range probed to date by a ...

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Prime factorizations of finite groups. II

open access: yesAdvances in Group Theory and Applications
Summary: This is the second part of our three consecutive papers which develop a theory of prime factorizations of groups. In this part, we show core results. Notably, we completely determine finite \textit{unique factorization groups} (UFGs), i.e. groups with unique prime factorizations (up to equivalence).

Plasma extrachromosomal circular DNA as a biomarker in EGFR‐targeted therapy of non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detection of extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) in plasma samples from EGFR‐mutated non‐small cell lung cancer patients. Plasma was collected before and during treatment with the EGFR‐tyrosine kinase inhibitor osimertinib. Plasma eccDNA was detected in all cancer samples, and the presence of the EGFR gene on eccDNA serves as a potential biomarker ...

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...
