Since the multiplier and multiplieaml can be interchanged with no effect on the product, it is convenient, to rename these parts and give them both the same name, factor. If we have a product such as 15, we then say that 3 and 5 are fuctors of 15 since 3×5=15. 1×15 = 15 so 1 and 15 are a also factors of 15.

To teach discrimination between prime and composite numbers and to introduce the concept offactoring, a set of baby's blocks makes an excellent teaching aid. Although I have carried out my experiments with eighth graders, I feel the blocks would be useful even in the high school.
