Maximum Entropy Fundamentals

open access: yesEntropy, 2001
: In its modern formulation, the Maximum Entropy Principle was promoted by E.T. Jaynes, starting in the mid-fifties. The principle dictates that one should look for a distribution, consistent with available information, which maximizes the entropy ...

Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics, and Safety of Subcutaneous Belimumab in Pediatric Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Multicenter, Open‐Label Trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective This study aimed to characterize the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, safety, and exploratory efficacy of subcutaneous belimumab in pediatric patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) receiving standard therapy. Methods This single‐arm, multicenter, open‐label trial (GSK study 200908; NCT04179032) used three‐weight‐band ...

A Note of Caution on Maximizing Entropy

open access: yesEntropy, 2014
The Principle of Maximum Entropy is often used to update probabilities due to evidence instead of performing Bayesian updating using Bayes’ Theorem, and its use often has efficacious results.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

On the validity of entropy production principles for linear electrical circuits

open access: yes, 2007
We discuss the validity of close-to-equilibrium entropy production principles in the context of linear electrical circuits. Both the minimum and the maximum entropy production principle are understood within dynamical fluctuation theory.

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Enhanced reconstruction of weighted networks from strengths and degrees

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2014
Network topology plays a key role in many phenomena, from the spreading of diseases to that of financial crises. Whenever the whole structure of a network is unknown, one must resort to reconstruction methods that identify the least biased ensemble of ...

Reply to "Comment on `Inference with minimal Gibbs free energy in information field theory'" by Iatsenko, Stefanovska and McClintock

open access: yes, 2012
We endorse the comment on our recent paper [En{\ss}lin and Weig, Phys. Rev. E 82, 051112 (2010)] by Iatsenko, Stefanovska and McClintock [Phys. Rev. E 85 033101 (2012)] and we try to clarify the origin of the apparent controversy on two issues.
