Deep Learning Class Discrimination Based on Prior Probability for Human Activity Recognition

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Convolutional neural network (CNN) depicts the transformation of the input image through a series of convolutions and other non-linear phases for recognition and classification purposes. This method has gained popularity for its significant contributions

The subcellular distribution of phosphorylated Y‐box‐binding protein‐1 at S102 in colorectal cancer patients, stratified by KRAS mutational status and clinicopathological features

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies nuclear YB‐1 S102 phosphorylation as a marker associated with KRAS and FBXW7 mutations in colorectal cancer. Mutated KRAS correlates specifically with nuclear, not cytoplasmic, S102 YB‐1. These findings provide the first ex vivo evidence of this link in CRC and suggest future studies should assess the prognostic and therapeutic ...

A software tool for applying Bayes' theorem in medical diagnostics

open access: yesBMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making
Background In medical diagnostics, estimating post-test or posterior probabilities for disease, positive and negative predictive values, and their associated uncertainty is essential for patient care.

KCS1 and VIP1, the genes encoding yeast phosphoinositol pyrophosphate synthases, are required for Ca2+‐mediated response to dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO)

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Ca2+‐mediated response to DMSO was investigated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells expressing Ca2+‐dependent aequorin. Cell exposure to DMSO induced a cytosolic Ca2+ wave dependent on the integrity of the Cch1/Mid1 channel. Deletion of KCS1 or VIP1 genes encoding the phosphoinositol pyrophosphate (PP‐IP) synthases suppressed the DMSO‐induced Ca2 ...

Hilbert–Schmidt separability probabilities and noninformativity of priors [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 2006
The Horodecki family employed the Jaynes maximum-entropy principle, fitting the mean (b_{1}) of the Bell-CHSH observable (B). This model was extended by Rajagopal by incorporating the dispersion ( _{1}^2) of the observable, and by Canosa and Rossignoli, by generalizing the observable (B_ ).

Knockout of the mitoribosome rescue factors Ict1 or Mtrfr is viable in zebrafish but not mice: compensatory mechanisms underlying each factor's loss

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Mitochondria contain two mitoribosome rescue factors, ICT1 and MTRFR (C12orf65). ICT1 also functions as a mitoribosomal protein in mice and humans, and its loss is lethal. Although Mtrfr knockout mice could not be generated, knockout zebrafish lines for ict1 and mtrfr were established.

Minimum-error discrimination between mixed quantum states

open access: yes, 2007
We derive a general lower bound on the minimum-error probability for {\it ambiguous discrimination} between arbitrary $m$ mixed quantum states with given prior probabilities. When $m=2$, this bound is precisely the well-known Helstrom limit.

Profiling the effect of low frequency mechanical vibration on the metabolic and oxidative stress responses of A431 carcinoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
20 Hz mechanical vibration induced A431 cancer cells' apoptosis without such effect on other healthy cell lines of L929 and C2C12. Lowered glucose consumption is observed specifically in A431. The expressions of ROS, HMGB1, and HSP1 levels initially increase and subsequently decrease in the cancer cell line, as opposed to L929 and C2C12, which ...

Some Applications of Bayes' Rule in Probability Theory to Electrocatalytic Reaction Engineering

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemistry, 2011
Bayesian methods stem from the principle of linking prior probability and conditional probability (likelihood) to posterior probability via Bayes' rule.

Subjective Prior Probability-Distributions And Audit Risk

open access: yes, 1985
Bayesian models of the auditor's decision process (e.g., Bailey and Jensen [1977], Kinney [1975], and Scott [1973; 1975]) incorporate subjective beliefs formalized as prior probability distributions (PPDs).
