Robust Transport over Networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We consider transportation over a strongly connected, directed graph. The scheduling amounts to selecting transition probabilities for a discrete-time Markov evolution which is designed to be consistent with initial and final marginal constraints on mass

Modifications in FLAP's second cytosolic loop influence 5‐LOX interaction, inhibitor binding, and leukotriene formation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The enzyme 5‐lipoxygenase (5‐LOX) catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes (LTs) involved in inflammatory pathophysiology. After cellular stimulation, 5‐LOX translocates to the nucleus, interacting with the 5‐LOX‐activating protein (FLAP) to form LTA4 from arachidonic acid (AA).

FRAX™ and the assessment of fracture probability in men and women from the UK

open access: yesOsteoporosis International, 2008
SummaryA fracture risk assessment tool (FRAX™) is developed based on the use of clinical risk factors with or without bone mineral density tests applied to the UK.IntroductionThe aim of this study was to apply an assessment tool for the prediction of ...

Bayesian Updating, Model Class Selection and Robust Stochastic Predictions of Structural Response [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A fundamental issue when predicting structural response by using mathematical models is how to treat both modeling and excitation uncertainty. A general framework for this is presented which uses probability as a multi-valued conditional logic for ...

A frequentist framework of inductive reasoning

open access: yes, 2009
Reacting against the limitation of statistics to decision procedures, R. A. Fisher proposed for inductive reasoning the use of the fiducial distribution, a parameter-space distribution of epistemological probability transferred directly from limiting ...

The carboxylate “gripper” of the substrate is critical for C‐4 stereo‐inversion by UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase (UGAepi) catalyzes NAD+‐dependent interconversion of UDP‐glucuronic acid (UDP‐GlcA) and UDP‐galacturonic acid (UDP‐GalA) via C4‐oxidation, 4‐keto‐intermediate rotation, and C4‐reduction. Here, Borg et al. examined the role of the substrate's carboxylate group in the enzymic mechanism by analyzing NADH‐dependent reduction

Effects of prior knowledge on decisions made under perceptual vs. categorical uncertainty

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2012
Humans use prior knowledge to bias decisions made under uncertainty. In this fMRI study we predicted that different brain dynamics play a role when prior knowledge is added to decisions made under perceptual vs. categorical uncertainty.

Data-Targeted Prior Distribution for Variational AutoEncoder

open access: yesFluids, 2021
Bayesian methods were studied in this paper using deep neural networks. We are interested in variational autoencoders, where an encoder approaches the true posterior and the decoder approaches the direct probability.

A Universal Decoder Relative to a Given Family of Metrics

open access: yes, 2014
Consider the following framework of universal decoding suggested in [MerhavUniversal]. Given a family of decoding metrics and random coding distribution (prior), a single, universal, decoder is optimal if for any possible channel the average error ...

Clinical applications of next‐generation sequencing‐based ctDNA analyses in breast cancer: defining treatment targets and dynamic changes during disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) offers a possibility for different applications in early and late stage breast cancer management. In early breast cancer tumor informed approaches are increasingly used for detecting molecular residual disease (MRD) and early recurrence. In advanced stage, ctDNA provides a possibility for monitoring disease progression and
