Protograph-Based LDPC Code Design for Probabilistic Shaping with On-Off Keying

open access: yes, 2019
This work investigates protograph-based LDPC codes for the AWGN channel with OOK modulation. A non-uniform distribution of the OOK modulation symbols is considered to improve the power efficiency especially for low SNRs.

Tracking Motor Progression and Device‐Aided Therapy Eligibility in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To characterise the progression of motor symptoms and identify eligibility for device‐aided therapies in Parkinson's disease, using both the 5‐2‐1 criteria and a refined clinical definition, while examining differences across genetic subgroups.

On the Achievable Information Rate of Probabilistic Shaping QAM Order and Source Entropy in Visible Light Communication Systems

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Probabilistic shaping (PS) is a powerful tool that can realize a flexible data rate and high spectrum efficiency. However, the performance of PS is closely related to the quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) order, source entropy (SE), normalized ...

Demonstration of Terabit/s LAN-WDM for the Evolution of B5G/6G Fronthaul Networks

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2023
Intensity modulation/direct detection (IM/DD) and coherent schemes are two kinds of promising solutions to achieve the evolution for B5G/6G fronthaul networks. IM/DD has more mature commercial deployment applications for short-

A Prospective Study of Individuals at Risk of Multiple Sclerosis Informs the Design of Primary Prevention Studies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective In multiple sclerosis, the optimal time for deploying a therapeutic intervention is before the central nervous system is damaged; given the success of trials treating the earliest stage of MS, the radiologically isolated syndrome, developing primary prevention strategies is an important next challenge.

Epilepsy‐Associated Variants of a Single SCN1A Codon Exhibit Divergent Functional Properties

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Pathogenic variants in SCN1A, which encodes the voltage‐gated sodium channel NaV1.1, are associated with multiple epilepsy syndromes exhibiting a range of clinical severity. SCN1A variants are reported in different syndromes, including Dravet syndrome, which is associated with loss‐of‐function, whereas neonatal/infantile‐onset ...

Performance Metrics for Systems with Soft-Decision FEC and Probabilistic Shaping

open access: yes, 2017
High-throughput optical communication systems utilize binary soft-decision forward error correction (SD-FEC) with bit interleaving over the bit channels. The generalized mutual information (GMI) is an achievable information rate (AIR) in such systems and

Added Prognostic Value of EEG Reactivity in Comatose Patients Following Cardiac Arrest

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To evaluate the added prognostic value of EEG reactivity for favorable outcome compared with background analysis during and after targeted temperature management (TTM). Methods Prospective observational cohort study of comatose post–cardiac arrest patients admitted to a single academic center between 2017 and 2022, all undergoing ...

A Time Sharing Hybrid Probabilistic Shaping Scheme for Nonbinary LDPC Codes

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
A time sharing (TS) hybrid probabilistic shaping (HPS) scheme for nonbinary (NB) LDPC codes is proposed. For the conventional probabilistic shaping (CPS) scheme, the demodulator uses bit-metric decoding (BMD) for binary LDPC codes and NB LDPC codes ...
