Pure down-conversion photons through sub-coherence length domain engineering

open access: yes, 2017
Photonic quantum technology relies on efficient sources of coherent single photons, the ideal carriers of quantum information. Heralded single photons from parametric down-conversion can approximate on-demand single photons to a desired degree, with high

All‐in‐One Analog AI Hardware: On‐Chip Training and Inference with Conductive‐Metal‐Oxide/HfOx ReRAM Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐in‐one analog AI accelerator is presented, enabling on‐chip training, weight retention, and long‐term inference acceleration. It leverages a BEOL‐integrated CMO/HfOx ReRAM array with low‐voltage operation (<1.5 V), multi‐bit capability over 32 states, low programming noise (10 nS), and near‐ideal weight transfer.

Flexible Probabilistic Shaping RoF Signal Transmission With Adjustable ACO

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
We first propose and experimentally demonstrate an optical multi-carrier generation system based on probabilistic shaping, which can dynamically modify the frequency and probability in the time and frequency domains. In this paper, the variability of the

Enhancement of Spectral Efficiency and Power Budget in WDN-PON Employing LDPC-Coded Probabilistic Shaping PAM8

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
A $5\times60$ Gb/s low-density parity-check (LDPC) coded WDM-PON using 8-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM8) signals with probabilistic shaping (PS) over 20-km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) with direct detection is proposed and experimentally ...

Non-Locality of Experimental Qutrit Pairs

open access: yes, 2014
The insight due to John Bell that the joint behavior of individually measured entangled quantum systems cannot be explained by shared information remains a mystery to this day.

Near‐Infrared Emitting Lanthanide Catecholate Giant Single Crystals – Morphology Control and Photon Down‐Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled syntheses of lanthanide coordination polymers based on the dihydroxybenzoquinone (DHBQ) organic linker afforded large single crystals of Ln‐DHBQ CPs (Ln = Yb, Nd). A novel structural variant of Yb‐DHBQ is identified by means of single crystal diffraction analysis.

Enabling Technology in High-Baud-Rate Coherent Optical Communication Systems

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
High-baud-rate coherent optical system is essential to support the ever-increasing demand for high-speed applications. Owing to the recent progress in advanced modulation formats, over 1 Tb/s single-carrier data transmission has been achieved in the ...

Fast‐Responding O2 Gas Sensor Based on Luminescent Europium Metal‐Organic Frameworks (MOF‐76)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Luminescent MOF‐76 materials based on Eu(III) and mixed Eu(III)/Y(III) show rapid and reversible changes in emission intensity in response to O2 with very short response times. The effect is based on triplet quenching of the linker ligands that act as photosensitizers. Average emission lifetimes of a few milliseconds turn out to be mostly unaffected by

An All‐Optical Driven Bio‐Photovoltaic Interface for Active Control of Live Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐photovoltaic Interface (BIO‐PV‐I) for live cell manipulation is presented. BIO‐PV‐I can be activated non‐invasively and remotely to control the spatial motility, adhesion, and morphology of cells adhering to it. BIO‐PV‐I uses a patterned light‐induced electric potential in iron‐doped lithium niobate crystals whose light‐driven and reversible nature,

Shaping the Phase of a Single Photon

open access: yes, 2009
While the phase of a coherent light field can be precisely known, the phase of the individual photons that create this field, considered individually, cannot. Phase changes within single-photon wave packets, however, have observable effects.
