Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

Nonlinear optical components for all-optical probabilistic graphical model

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
To circumvent the limitations of electronic computers, moving to hybrid optical-electronic or all-optical devices may be useful. Here, Babaeian et al. present an all-optical implementation of the probabilistic graphical model using nonlinear optics in ...

High-order Vector Markov Chain with Partial Connections in Data Analysis

open access: yesAustrian Journal of Statistics, 2017
A new mathematical model for discrete time series is proposed: homogenous vector Markov chain of the order s with partial connections. Conditional probability distribution for this model is determined only by a few components of previous vector states ...

An effective medium approach to the asymptotics of the statistical moments of the parabolic Anderson model and Lifshitz tails [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Originally introduced in solid state physics to model amorphous materials and alloys exhibiting disorder induced metal-insulator transitions, the Anderson model $H_{\omega}= -\Delta + V_{\omega} $ on $l^2(\bZ^d)$ has become in mathematical physics as ...

Nanothermometry in Living Cells: Physical Limits, Conceptual and Material Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Heat and temperature are fundamental to life. When nanothermometers began probing regions as small as a living cell, they triggered controversial claims of large intracellular temperature gradients. We review physical constraints energy‐conservation, entropy production, thermodynamic fluctuations, and molecular dynamics.

A Probabilistic Physico-Chemical Diffusion Model of the Key Drifting Parameter of Measuring Equipment

open access: yesAxioms
(1) Background: A new probabilistic physico-chemical model of the drifting key parameter of measuring equipment is proposed. The model allows for the integrated consideration of degradation processes (electrolytic corrosion, oxidation, plastic ...

A Joint Probabilistic Classification Model of Relevant and Irrelevant Sentences in Mathematical Word Problems

open access: yesCoRR, 2010
Estimating the difficulty level of math word problems is an important task for many educational applications. Identification of relevant and irrelevant sentences in math word problems is an important step for calculating the difficulty levels of such problems.

Additive Manufacturing of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys for Elastocaloric Applications: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing enables complex NiTi architectures that overcome key limitations in elastocaloric refrigeration, including poor heat transfer and high mechanical work input. This review surveys recent advances in LPBF‐ and DED‐fabricated NiTi shape memory alloys for elastocaloric applications, highlighting process–structure–performance ...

An Accumulative Model for Quantum Theories [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
For a general quantum theory that is describable by a path integral formalism, we construct a mathematical model of an accumulation-to-threshold process whose outcomes give predictions that are nearly identical to the given quantum theory.
