Seismic Rigoletto: Hazards, risks and seismic roulette applications

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
Neo-Deterministic Seismic Hazard Assessment (NDSHA), dating back to the turn of the Millennium, is the new multi-disciplinary scenario- and physics-based approach for the evaluation of seismic hazard and safety–guaranteeing “prevention rather than cure.”

An optimizing microseismic method for rock burst early warning based on mining production process

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A classification early warning method of rock burst based on hourly microseismic data is proposed, which can be combined with the on‐site production process to provide more timely warning. Abstract Microseismic (MS) events have been reported in nearly every coal mining country, which could well lead to rock burst in underground coal mines.

Semi‐analytical solution for the stability of deep vertical shaft considering time‐dependent rock‐structure interaction

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A novel cavity contraction solution and multilayer shaft wall model were developed to analyze deep shaft stability, considering rock viscosity, support structures, and water pressure, with successful validation through a Hulusu Coal Mine case study.

Probabilistic seismic hazard maps for the Japanese islands

open access: yes, 2021
Probabilistic seismic hazard maps are constructed by utilising a new methodology called the parametric-historic method, since it combines the best features of the 'deductive' (Cornell CA. Engineering seismic risk analysis.

Seismic analysis and design of tunnels within fault ground: A review

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The research methods of seismic response of tunnels within fault ground, including field investigations, analytical solutions, physical experiments, and numerical simulations, and seismic countermeasures are discussed. The present study examines the shortcomings and limitations of the current research and design, and puts forward proposals for future ...

Validation of seismic hazard curves using a calibrated 14 ka lacustrine record in the Eastern Alps, Austria

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Seismic hazard maps are crucial for earthquake mitigation and mostly rely on probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA). However, the practise and value of PSHA are under debate because objective testing procedures for seismic hazard maps are scarce ...

A checking method for probabilistic seismic-hazard assessment: case studies on three cities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The conventional Cornell's source-based approach of probabilistic seismic-hazard assessment (PSHA) has been employed all around the world, whilst many studies often rely on the use of computer packages such as FRISK (McGuire FRISK-a computer program for ...

Integrated numerical simulation and source‐sink matching methodology for Basin‐Wide CO2 storage assessment in depleted reservoirs: A Cambay Basin case study

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study presents an integrated workflow to evaluate secure and large‐scale CO2 storage in depleted oil reservoirs of the Cambay Basin, India. Industrial CO2 sources are systematically matched with mature oil fields using a quantitative source–sink framework to minimize transport distance and cost.
