Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

A Novel Multi-Level Constellation Compression Modulation for GFDM-PON

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2019
In this paper, for the first time, a novel multi-level constellation compression modulation (MCCM) is proposed and applied for generalized frequency division multiplexing passive optical network (GFDM-PON).

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Enhanced PON and AMCC Joint Transmission with GMM-Based Probability Shaping Techniques

open access: yesPhotonics
In ITU-T standards, auxiliary management and control channels (AMCCs), as defined, facilitate the rapid deployment and efficient management of wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) systems.

26.8-m THz wireless transmission of probabilistic shaping 16-QAM-OFDM signals

open access: yesAPL Photonics, 2020
Recently, remarkable efforts have been made in developing wireless communication systems at ultrahigh data rates, with radio frequency (RF) carriers in the millimeter wave (30–300 GHz) and/or in the terahertz (THz, >300 GHz) bands. Converged technologies

Bit-Metric Decoding of Non-Binary LDPC Codes with Probabilistic Amplitude Shaping

open access: yes, 2018
A new approach for combining non-binary low-density parity-check (NB-LDPC) codes with higher-order modulation and probabilistic amplitude shaping (PAS) is presented.

ProDAS: Probabilistic Dataset of Abstract Shapes

open access: yes, 2023
We introduce a novel and comprehensive dataset, named ProDAS, which enables the generation of diverse objects with varying shape, size, rotation, and texture/color through a latent factor model. ProDAS offers complete access and control over the data generation process, serving as an ideal environment for investigating disentanglement, causal discovery,

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...
