Quantum Probabilities as Behavioral Probabilities [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
We demonstrate that behavioral probabilities of human decision makers share many common features with quantum probabilities. This does not imply that humans are some quantum objects, but just shows that the mathematics of quantum theory is applicable to ...

Probability, propensity and probability of propensities (and of probabilities) [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2017
Invited contribution to the proceedings MaxEnt 2016 based on the talk given at the workshop (Ghent, Belgium, 10-15 July 2016), supplemented by work done within the program Probability and Statistics in Forensic Science at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences ...

Quantum probabilities as Bayesian probabilities [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 2002
In the Bayesian approach to probability theory, probability quantifies a degree of belief for a single trial, without any a priori connection to limiting frequencies. In this paper we show that, despite being prescribed by a fundamental law, probabilities for individual quantum systems can be understood within the Bayesian approach.

A variant of the Recoil Growth algorithm to generate multi-polymer systems [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2008
The Recoil Growth algorithm, proposed in 1999 by Consta $\textit{et al.}$, is one of the most efficient algorithm available in the literature to sample from a multi-polymer system.

Analysis of an algorithm catching elephants on the Internet [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2008
The paper deals with the problem of catching the elephants in the Internet traffic. The aim is to investigate an algorithm proposed by Azzana based on a multistage Bloom filter, with a refreshment mechanism (called $\textit{shift}$ in the present paper),

A probabilistic analysis of a leader election algorithm [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2006
A leader election algorithm is an elimination process that divides recursively into tow subgroups an initial group of n items, eliminates one subgroup and continues the procedure until a subgroup is of size 1.

Mean field analysis for inhomogeneous bike sharing systems [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2012
In the paper, bike sharing systems with stations having a finite capacity are studied as stochastic networks. The inhomogeneity is modeled by clusters.

Comment l’articulation entre théorie de l’activité et théorie anthropologique éclaire la transition secondaire-supérieur : le cas des probabilités conditionnelles

open access: yesAnnales de Didactique et de Sciences Cognitives, 2022
The study of the secondary-tertiary transition requires taking into account institutional evolution but also the point of view of the actors. For this reason we have chosen to network the activity theory adapted to the didactics of mathematics with the ...

Personal probabilities of probabilities [PDF]

open access: yesTheory and Decision, 1975
By definition, the subjective probability distribution of a random event is revealed by the (‘rational’) subject's choice between bets — a view expressed by F. Ramsey, B. De Finetti, L. J. Savage and traceable to E. Borel and, it can be argued, to T. Bayes.

Generalized probability–probability plots [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Planning and Inference, 2004
We introduce generalized Probability-Probability (P-P) plots in order to study the one-sample goodness-of-fit problem and the two-sample problem, for real valued data. These plots, that are constructed by indexing with the class of closed intervals, globally preserve the properties of classical P-P plots and are distribution-free under the null ...
