Probability modelling

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series B: Biological Sciences, 1990
This paper traces the development of modelling to assess the environmental fate of agricultural chemicals within DowElanco's Environmental Fate Group. Field monitoring of late was the initial tool for assessment, but inefficiency of the process and poor data interpretability turned the group's attention to benchmarking.

A Spike-Train Probability Model

Neural Computation, 2001
Poisson processes usually provide adequate descriptions of the irregularity in neuron spike times after pooling the data across large numbers of trials, as is done in constructing the peristimulus time histogram. When probabilities are needed to describe the behavior of neurons within individual trials, however, Poisson process models are often ...

Modeling Processes from Probabilities

2003
John A. Jacquez passed away in October 1999 after a very distinguished career in biomedical modeling. Among his most influential accomplishments is the book Compartmental Analysis in Biology and Medicine, first published in 1972 and as the third edition in 1996. Others will no doubt give comprehensive reviews of his many lifetime achievements.

Models in applied probability

Synthese, 1960
1. It is a pleasure for me that my subject at this colloquium is probability. I think there is no domain of rational activity (daily life excepted) where the use of models is as direct, as palpable, as little problematic as it is in applied probability. So I think my task is much easier than that of anyone who has dealt with models at this colloquium.

Probability Based Models

1991
As argued in the preceding parts of this book, probability theory offers a theoretically sound model for representing uncertainty and for considering it in reasoning techniques. Just in the last few years a revival of using probability theory in representing uncertainty has taken place.
