Indifference, Sample Space, and the Wine/Water Paradox [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Von Mises’ wine/water paradox has served as a foundation for detractors of the Principle of Indifference and logical probability. Mikkelson recently proposed a first solution, and here several additional solutions to the paradox are explained.

When an Atom Becomes a Message—Practicing Experiments on the Origins of Life

open access: yesInformation, 2012
Practicing experiments on the origins of life within the framework of quantum mechanics comes to face a task of distinguishing the descriptive spaces of the object between a space of physical states and a space of probability distributions. One candidate

Erratum to ‘‘Lebesgue spaces with variable exponent on a probability space’’

open access: yes, 2009
A bstract . We show that the Lebesgue space with a variable exponent L p ð(cid:1)Þ is a rearrangement–invariant space if and only if p is constant. In addition, we give a necessary and su‰cient condition on a variable exponent for a martingale inequality

Structural studies and functional engineering of NanX: an anhydro‐sialic acid transporter from Escherichia coli

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biophysical characterisation shows that NanX, a membrane transport protein from the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), forms both monomers and dimers after purification. AlphaFold modelling and substrate docking provide information on residues likely involved in substrate recognition for NanX and another MFS member, NanT.

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.

Urban green space and obesity in older adults: Evidence from Ireland

open access: yesSSM: Population Health, 2018
We examine the association between living in an urban area with more or less green space and the probability of being obese. This work involves the creation of a new dataset which combines geo-coded data at the individual level from the Irish ...

High‐Resolution MRI Revealed Different Etiology‐Specific Associations With Cerebral Infarction in Adult Moyamoya Vasculopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective High‐resolution MRI enables detailed assessment of intracranial vessel wall pathology in moyamoya vasculopathy. We aimed to classify adult moyamoya vasculopathy etiologies using high‐resolution MRI and to examine subtype‐specific associations between high‐resolution MRI features and ischemic infarction.

The Natural-Range Conception of Probability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Objective interpretations of probability are usually discussed in two varieties: frequency and propensity accounts. But there is a third, neglected possibility, namely, probabilities as deriving from ranges in suitably structured initial state spaces ...

Understanding Further the Phenotypic Spectrum of Central Nervous System Inflammatory Demyelinating Disorders Using Unsupervised Clustering

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Central nervous system (CNS) inflammatory demyelinating syndromes, including multiple sclerosis (MS), aquaporin‐4 antibody–positive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (AQP4 + NMOSD), and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody–associated disease (MOGAD), occasionally overlap.

Influenza Vaccination Responses in Disabled Stroke Patients: A Single‐Center Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to investigate the immunological response to influenza vaccination, the incidence and severity of influenza infection, and the side effects of the vaccination in patients with ischemic stroke. Methods This prospective observational study was conducted between 2023 and 2024 at Ramathibodi Hospital.
