An overview of problematic Internet use
Addictive Behaviors, 2014Problematic Internet use (PIU), which has become a global social issue, can be broadly conceptualized as an inability to control one's use of the Internet which leads to negative consequences in daily life. The aim of this paper is to give a brief overview of the gradually evolving body of literature on PIU.

Abstract As a result of new technology, problematic internet use (PIU) is a problem for a significant number of adolescents. Most adolescents spend more than 7 hours a day using media, but a subset of adolescents who suffer from PIU spent more than that online.
