A multilevel approach to pattern processing

Pattern Recognition, 1981
Abstract This paper presents a methodology for describing multilevel pattern processing systems. It is suggested that any pattern processor can be adequately described in terms of multiple hierarchies of two types of fundamental mechanism: (1) a process which performs the pattern recognition functions of analysis and synthesis and (2) a process which

New Approach to Nonequilibrium Processes

Physical Review, 1955
In this paper we propose a new model for the description of irreversible processes, which permits the construction of a Gibbs-type ensemble and the employment of the general techniques of statistical mechanics. The internal dynamics of the system that is engaged in the process is assumed to be described fully by its Hamiltonian.

A scaling approach for FFT processing

ICASSP '80. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2005
In signal processing, multidimensional FFTs and circular convolution filters implemented via multiplication in the frequency domain are used frequently. To avoid amplitude modulation of the signal, a scaling based upon criteria involving multiple FFTs must be employed; a direct application of block floating point is inadequate.

A mathematical approach to cognitive processes

Experientia, 1987
A mathematical formalization of cognitive processes based on concepts previously given in Experientia is presented. Cognitive processes are described as a set of exponentially decaying interaction probabilities determined by previous interactions between different elements and an association parameter, the inverse of the cognitive stability.

A Practical Approach to the Nursing Process

AJN, American Journal of Nursing, 1972
Despite the fact that the nursing process has become an integral part of the curriculum of nursing education, many graduate nurses are unable to utilize the theory in their hospital activities. This is due to the fact that we are still using mass production techniques, rather than a primary nursing concept in our delivery of nursing care(l1).

File processing—a correctness approach

ACM SIGCSE Bulletin, 1988
This paper describes an upper-division course in file processing which is intended to satisfy the requirements of both theoretical and applications-oriented curricula. It emphasizes file processing concepts from a software engineering perspective. Attention is paid to the system life cycle and a correctness approach to design and coding.
