Time-resolved Raman spectroscopy for in situ planetary mineralogy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Planetary mineralogy can be revealed through a variety of remote sensing and in situ investigations that precede any plans for eventual sample return. We briefly review those techniques and focus on the capabilities for on-surface in situ examination of ...

Temperature‐dependent shear behavior and constitutive model of the rock–concrete interface

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Shear tests were conducted to investigate the temperature‐dependent shear behavior of the rock–concrete interface, highlighting the interaction between the surrounding rock and the lining during tunnel fires. Under experimental conditions, concrete exhibited greater temperature sensitivity than rock, with the shear fracture surface transitioning from ...

Characterizing Natural Fractures and Their Interactions with Hydraulically Induced Fractures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Natural fractures are preexisting micro-cracks and fissures that can have a critical impact on hydraulic fracture treatments in shales. Most shale formations contain natural fractures, but the characteristics of these natural fractures can vary ...

Shear behavior of bolt–grout interfaces under constant normal stiffness: Influence of grout strength and thickness

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The effects of grout strength and thickness on the shear behavior of bolt–grout interfaces (BGI) under constant normal stiffness conditions are investigated. Shear strength, failure modes, and acoustic emission characteristics are examined. The findings reveal that grout strength exerts a significantly greater influence on BGI shear strength and ...

Mineralogical Characteristics and Beneficiation Experimental Study on Polytype Pyrrhotite in Kafang Deposit, Yunnan Province

open access: yesKuangchan zonghe liyong
With the increase of pyrrhotite content in Kafang copper-tungsten deposit, how to reduce the effects of pyrrhotite on the beneficiation process of copper and tungsten has become a difficult problem.

Evaluation of some ceramic clays from Zambia [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
This reports details the technical evaluation of ceramic clays collected during visits to Zambia in 1990 and 1991 by the author (Clive Mitchell). The clay samples included: Choma kaolin (Southern Province), Twapia kaolin (Copperbelt Province), Kapiri ...

A review on rockburst prediction and prevention to shape an ontology‐based framework for better decision‐making for underground excavations

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A scientometric analysis of 2449 journal articles and a comprehensive review of 336 papers were conducted, discussing and identifying challenges and research gaps in rockburst prediction and prevention and proposing an ontology‐based framework for better decision‐making in underground excavations. Abstract With underground engineering projects becoming

Investigation on hard‐rock breaking performance and auxiliary mechanism of picks assisted with both‐sided high‐pressure water jets

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This paper investigates the high‐pressure water jet‐pick combined rock‐breaking mode (HPC), which employs high‐pressure water jets to precut grooves on both sides of the picks. The rock‐breaking patterns and performance of the HPC method are obtained, and the auxiliary rock‐breaking mechanism of water jet grooving is revealed.

A palaeoecological approach to neotectonics : the geomorphic evolution of the Ntem River in and below its interior delta, SW Cameroon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Late Tertiary to Quaternary evolution of the Ntem interior delta in SW Cameroon shall be modelled. A step fault was formed along neotectonically remobilized Precambrian structures.

Generalized Matsuoka–Nakai criterion considering hydrostatic pressure dependence in the brittle–ductile region

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Three sets of strength data were selected, including hydrostatic pressure independent within the brittle region (HPI‐B), hydrostatic pressure dependent within the brittle region (HPD‐B), and hydrostatic pressure dependent within the brittle–ductile region (HPD‐BD). For HPI type, the failure envelope within the deviatoric plane remains constant.
