Random processes in random environments

Advances in Applied Probability, 1980
We shall give a brief survey of some random processes in random environments. Roughly speaking, our examples arise from models in which a phenomenon is described by a Markov process or chain. The Markov process in question is specified by a (usually infinite) number of parameters.

Reduced Branching Processes in Random Environment

2002
Let Zn be the number of particles at time n in a critical branching process in random environment and Zm,n be the number of particles in this process at time m ≤ n which have non-empty offspring at time n. We prove limit theorems for the process {Z[nt],n, t ∈ (0, 1]} conditioned on the event {Zn > 0}. Quenched and annealed approaches are considered.*

Diffusion Processes in Random Environments

1995
Problems concerning limiting behavior of random processes in random environments have been discussed mostly in the framework of random walks (e.g., see [1], [4], [6], [15], [17], [23], [24]). Most of the problems, naturally, can also be treated in the framework of diffusion processes.

A note on growth processes in random environment

Biological Cybernetics, 1975
The purpose of this note is to discuss certain features of population growth models carlier proposed and to construct an alternative diffusion model for regulated growth in random environment. This model is shown to be the analogue of the Malthusian one, although it is a generalization of the latter due to the presence of regulation.

Stochastic processes in random environment [PDF]

open access: possible, 2009
We are interested in two probabilistic models of a process interacting with a random environment. Firstly, we consider the model of directed polymers in random environment. In this case, a polymer, represented as the path of a simple random walk on a lattice, interacts with an environment given by a collection of time-dependent random variables ...

Statistics of Voltage Processes in Random Environment

ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems, Part B: Mechanical Engineering, 2021
Abstract A method is developed to characterize the performance of voltage processes X(t) harvested from primary-absorber dynamical systems subjected to Gaussian forcing functions. The method is based on properties of the Slepian model of X(t) and Monte Carlo simulation.

Branching processes in near-critical random environments

Journal of Applied Probability, 2004
Branching processes are studied in random environments that are influenced by the population size and approach criticality as the population gets large. Results are applied to the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), which is empirically known to exhibit first exponential and then linear growth of molecule numbers.
