We assessed the performance of 22 DNA metabarcoding primer sets for detecting 103 species of marine and freshwater bony fishes, elasmobranchs, cephalopods, and crustaceans. We find that a portfolio of four markers targeting 12S, 16S, and multiple regions of COI identifies all reference taxa to family and nearly 60% to species.

Application of a deep learning image classifier for identification of Amazonian fishes
To address the growing prevalence of large ecological datasets combined with a need for rapid species identification tools, we describe a novel application of a computer vision model, which is built to rapidly identify Amazonian fishes from captured image data.

Synapsis in supernumerary chromosomes of Prochilodus lineatus (Teleostei: Prochilodontidae) [PDF]
Summary Meiotic analysis performed on a sample of 10 specimens of Prochilodus lineatus revealed continuous filaments of different sizes stained by AgNO3, corresponding to the bivalent of the normal complement. Small supernumerary chromosomes were observed as isolated and well stained bodies, scattered among the other elements.
