Predicting Long‐Term Depression Progression in Parkinson's Disease: A Machine‐Learning Survival Analysis and Risk Score

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 4, April 2026.
We developed and internally validated a machine learning–based survival model for predicting long‐term progression of dPD. Supported by SHAP analysis, the model identified that depressive symptom severity, cognitive impairment, and autonomic dysfunction were the main key clinical predictors for dPD progression.

The Brain‐Gut Axis in Parkinson's Disease Pathology

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 2, April 2026.
Exposure to environmental toxins induces gut dysbiosis, increases intestinal epithelial barrier permeability, immune activation, and oxidative stress, promoting α‐syn misfolding and propagation. Brainstem DMV neurons exhibit α‐syn pathology, dysregulating neuronal excitability and vagal control of GI functions.

Astrocytes as central integrators of neural circuit function: Mechanisms and dysregulation in neuropsychiatric disorders

open access: yesClinical and Translational Discovery, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2026.
1. Astrocytes are central integrators of neural circuit function through tripartite synapse modulation and neurovascular coupling. 2. Dysregulation of glutamate/GABA homeostasis and neuroinflammation represents shared mechanisms across diverse neuropsychiatric disorders. 3.

Dynamic Alterations of Functional Systems in Alzheimer's Disease: A Co‐Activation Pattern Analysis

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 47, Issue 5, 1 April 2026.
State 3 exhibited significantly reduced persistence and resilience in both MCI and AD compared to CU. Individuals with MCI and AD showed reduced transition probability from State 2 to State 5 and decreased self‐transitions in State 3. Graph theoretical results corresponded well to the findings of the above CAP analysis.

Deep learning of wrist accelerometry from UK Biobank data identifies early movement signatures of knee osteoarthritis up to 5 years before diagnosis

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, Volume 34, Issue 4, Page 1524-1533, April 2026.
Abstract Purpose This study aims to test whether week‐long wrist accelerometry combined with deep learning can (i) distinguish healthy individuals from people with knee osteoarthritis (KOA), (ii) separate prodromal KOA from established KOA, and (iii) identify individuals who will receive a KOA diagnosis within 5 years.

Therapeutic Impact of Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester and Acyclovir Combination on Human Gingival Fibroblasts (HGF‐1) Infected With Herpes Simplex Type 1 ICP0

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Herpes simplex virus Type 1 (HSV‐1) is a prevalent infectious agent globally, often causing oral infections like gingivostomatitis. The ICP0 protein of HSV‐1 exacerbates infection severity by inhibiting antiviral responses. Our study explored how combinations of CAPE (caffeic acid phenethyl ester) and acyclovir influenced immune responses in ...
