Determination of α-tocopherol in pork with high intramuscular fat content

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 1996
Extraction of α-tocopherol from pork samples with low (3%) (LF) or high (9%) (HF) amount of intramuscular fat have been carried out by three different methods, two of them based in saponification plus extraction of α-tocopherol and the other one without ...

Causal inference for the covariance between breeding values under identity disequilibrium

open access: yesGenetics Selection Evolution, 2022
Background The covariance matrix of breeding values is at the heart of prediction methods. Prediction of breeding values can be formulated using either an “observed” or a theoretical covariance matrix, and a major argument for choosing one or the other ...

Tick‐borne diseases in subtropical dairy farming: The role of calf rearing strategies in antibody and antigen prevalence Enfermedades Transmitidas por Garrapatas en la Ganadería Lechera subtropical: El Papel de las Estrategias de Crianza de Terneros en la Prevalencia de Anticuerpos y Antígenos

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Tropical farmers try to adapt calf‐rearing systems to temperate dairy industry standards. Calves in tick‐infested areas develop stronger immunity to TBD under controlled exposure to ticks. Early tick exposure promotes sustainable management, balancing tick infestation and developing TBD immunity.

Effect of gender, housing density and the interaction on growth performance and carcass and meat quality of pigs slaughtered at 110 kg body weight

open access: yesSpanish Journal of Agricultural Research, 2012
A total of 228 crossbred pigs were used to investigate the effect of gender (gilts and barrows), density at housing (0.84 and 0.76 m2/pig) and the interaction on growth performance and carcass and merit from 19.4 to 110 kg body weight.

Effects of essential amino acids on phagostimulation and reproduction in adults of the Mediterranean fruit fly Efectos de amino ácidos esenciales en la fago‐estimulación y reproducción en adultos de la mosca de las frutas del Mediterráneo

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, EarlyView.
The phagostimulation and reproductive effects of individual essential amino acids, without other nutrient except fructose, were investigated. Methionine, Arginine and Leucine display significantly higher phagostimulation strength than fructose. Arginine and Methionine showed a significant improvement in reproductive activity compared to other tested ...

Decomponology: A board game for understanding soil carbon dynamics

open access: yesNatural Sciences Education, Volume 55, Issue 2, December 2026.
Abstract Soils sustain life and regulate global carbon cycling, yet the processes governing soil organic matter dynamics are inherently complex, involving multiple pathways and positive and negative feedbacks. Traditional concepts such as humus often portrayed soil carbon as a static pool whose persistence was attributed largely to the inherent ...

Integration of selective sweeps across the sheep genome: understanding the relationship between production and adaptation traits

open access: yesGenetics Selection Evolution
Background Livestock populations are under constant selective pressure for higher productivity levels for different selective purposes. This pressure results in the selection of animals with unique adaptive and production traits.

Cell Type‐Specific Extracellular Vesicles in Mouse Brain: Proteomic Signatures Highlight Astrocytic GlialCAM Network and GPCR Enrichment

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 10, October 2026.
Cell type–specific EVs were isolated from mouse brain and profiled by proteomics. Each EV subtype exhibited proteomic signatures consistent with the specialized functions of its cell of origin. Astrocyte‐derived EVs (ADEVs) were enriched for the GlialCAM/MLC1 network and GPCRs.
