Performance evaluation of premixed burner fueled with biomass derived producer gas

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2017
Energy consumption of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in ceramic firing process accounts for about 15–40% of production cost. Biomass derived producer gas may be used to replace LPG.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

The pyruvate generator is a common phenomenon in mitochondria from different rat and mouse brain regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The pyruvate generator, which causes activation of respiration by extra‐mitochondrial Ca2+, is also present and functional in rat brainstem mitochondria, as it is in other brain regions. This finding is confirmed by experiments with a fully reconstituted malate–aspartate shuttle (MAS).

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Biomass gasification in rotary kiln integrated with a producer gas thermal cleaning unit: An experimental investigation

open access: yesResults in Engineering
In this work, gasification of hazelnut shells grains is carried out in a bench-scale rotary kiln by using air as gasifying agent at 800 °C. The producer gas is directly treated in a thermal cleaning unit operating at 800–1100 °C with the aim to reduce ...
