Analytical modeling of grinding process in rail profile correction considering grinding pattern

Archives of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, 2018
Abstract An analytical introduction to rail grinding was presented in this paper where a newly-designed profile serves as the targeted ground profile to extend the rail's service life. A method for determining eliminated metal due to rail grinding is established as an initial consideration in the process of rail profile correction.

Problems in Profile Grinding — Angular Plunge Grinding and Surface Grinding

CIRP Annals, 1981
Profiles can be ground using plane and cylindrical grinding techniques, whereby similar problems are encountered in both cases. For example, it is of importance to know whether cylindrical or asymmetrical profiles are to be ground. When grinding asymmetrical profiles axial forces occur, they can constitute a major problem.

CBN or CD Grinding of Profiles

CIRP Annals, 1993
Summary In practice, profiles in difficult-to-machine materials are ground by means of CD grinding or by using CBN wheels. Both processes permit manufacturing at high cutting speeds and produce a high shape accuracy and a high surface quality. In CBN grinding, this is achieved through the use of vitrified bonded or electroplated CBN wheels.

Grinding process for profiled texturing

CIRP Annals, 2016
Abstract Hydrodynamic textures require the production of cavities with a profile composed by two ramps with different angles. This demands the development of a grinding process able to firstly dress such patterns on the wheel surface and later copying them to the workpiece by grinding.

Laser Profiling of Aluminum Oxide Grinding Wheels

Volume 1: Processing, 2015
Laser profiling experiments are performed at normal incidence on fine grain medium density aluminum oxide grinding wheels with a pulsed nanosecond 1064nm fiber laser source with maximum pulse fluence 369J/cm2. In order to determine the incision depth and ideal laser pass separation distance, laser exposures are first performed on high purity, low ...

Economical aspects of profiling diamond-grinding wheels

International Journal of Manufacturing Technology and Management, 2007
This paper presents the results of a recent study on various tools and methods for the profiling and dressing of diamond-grinding wheels. Special focus was placed upon economical implications of the use of diamond-dressing tools. A closed analytical correlation was developed in order to create an evaluation instrument for the optimisation of dressing ...
