Information Bias and Adjusted Profile Likelihoods
SUMMARY The bias and information bias of the ordinary profile score statistic are both typically of order O(1). Several additive adjustments to the profile score statistic that reduce its bias to order O(n −1) have been proposed. In certain situations, the information bias of these adjusted profile score statistics is also reduced to ...

ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Likelihood inference for small variance components
In this paper, we develop likelihood-based methods for making inferences about the components of variance in a general normal mixed linear model. In particular, we use local asymptotic approximations to construct confidence intervals for the components ...

Determination of Neutron Star Radius from Pulse Profile Modeling Using Profile Likelihood
In recent years, NICER data have been extensively used to determine neutron star masses and radii via pulse profile modeling. Pulse profile modeling is implemented with the X-PSI package, and the best-fit parameters are typically obtained using Bayesian ...

Self-concordant profile empirical likelihood ratio tests for the population correlation coefficient: A simulation study [PDF]
We present results of a simulation study regarding the finite-sample type I error behavior of the self-concordant profile empirical likelihood ratio (ELR) test for the population correlation coefficient.

ABSTRACT Introduction This final analysis of a multicenter, prospective postmarketing surveillance study evaluated the safety of daprodustat in patients with chronic kidney disease anemia in routine clinical practice in Japan. Methods Patients who initiated daprodustat between September 2020 and July 2022 were registered.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Improving soil moisture profile reconstruction from ground-penetrating radar data: a maximum likelihood ensemble filter approach [PDF]
The vertical profile of shallow unsaturated zone soil moisture plays a key role in many hydro-meteorological and agricultural applications. We propose a closed-loop data assimilation procedure based on the maximum likelihood ensemble filter algorithm to ...

Profile Likelihood and Conditionally Parametric Models
The authors outline a general approach to estimating the parametric component of a semiparametric model. For the case of a scalar parametric component the method is based on the idea of first estimating a one- dimensional subproblem of the original problem that is least favorable in the sense of \textit{C. Stein} [Proc. Third Berkeley Sympos.
