Initial experience with the Codman Certas adjustable valve in the management of patients with hydrocephalus

open access: yesFluids and Barriers of the CNS, 2012
Background A new adjustable valve, the Codman CertasTM valve for treatment of hydrocephalus was introduced into clinical practice in January 2011. It has 8 different settings with an opening pressure varying from 36 to over 400 mm H2O at a flow rate of ...

Shunt valve positions.

open access: yes, 2023
Phantom positions shown from a lateral view. The shunt valve (depicted in black) is fixed to the spherical phantom strictly lateral (position 1), cranial (position 2), and 22.5° tilt anteriorly (position 3).

Programmable shunt valve interactions with osseointegrated hearing devices

open access: yes, 2017
OBJECTIVE Patients with ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunts with programmable valves who would benefit from osseointegrated hearing devices (OIHDs) represent a unique population. The aim of this study was to evaluate the magnetic field strengths of 4 OIHDs

Lumboperitoneal Shunt: A New Modified Surgical Technique and a Comparison of the Complications with Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt in a Single Center

open access: yesMedicina, 2019
Background and objectives: Hydrocephalus remains a disease requiring surgical treatment even in the modern era. Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt placement is the most common treatment, whereas lumboperitoneal (LP) shunts are less commonly used due to ...

Multiple massive intratumoral hemorrhages of metastatic brain melanoma after ventriculoperitoneal shunt

open access: yesFormosan Journal of Surgery, 2019
A 50-year-old male presented with sudden-onset headache, diplopia, and unsteadiness due to a posterior fossa hemorrhagic melanoma causing hydrocephalus. Computed tomography of the brain showed a 2.3 cm × 2.0 cm hemorrhagic tumor in the cerebellar vermis ...

In vitro testing of explanted shunt valves in hydrocephalic patients with suspected valve malfunction

open access: yes, 2023
Diagnosis of symptomatic valve malfunction in hydrocephalic patients treated with VP-Shunt (VPS) might be difficult. Clinical symptoms such as headache or nausea are nonspecific, hence cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) over- or underdrainage can only be ...

Cavernous malformation hemorrhage due to trans-mural pressure alterations after cerebrospinal fluid diversion: a case report

open access: yesBMC Neurology, 2020
Background Cavernous malformations are rare cerebral pseudo-vascular lesions with annualized bleeding rates of 0.5–3% in most studies. Of the various explored risk factors for bleeding to date, only prior hemorrhage has shown significant correlation ...

Preclinical Efficacy and Safety Evaluation of a Novel Controlled‐Expansion ePTFE‐Covered TIPS Stent in a Swine Model

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
This preclinical study evaluated a novel controlled‐expansion expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE)‐covered transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) stent in 11 swine, demonstrating 100% technical success, excellent deployability, and durable 6‐month angiographic patency without thrombosis, migration, fracture, or device‐related toxicity.

Strategic Spatial Segregation in Silicon Photoelectrodes: Decoupling Catalytic and Optical Functions for High‐Efficiency Solar Water Splitting

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2025.
A novel spatial segregation strategy for silicon photoelectrodes is demonstrated, where catalyst wires surrounded by tapered microwires effectively decouple competing optical and catalytic requirements. This architectural innovation enables optimal light absorption and catalytic activity while maintaining efficient charge transport, achieving 96.5 ...

Laboratory study on "intracranial hypotension" created by pumping the chamber of a hydrocephalus shunt

open access: yesCerebrospinal Fluid Research, 2007
Background It has been reported that pumping a shunt in situ may precipitate a proximal occlusion, and/or lead to ventricular over-drainage, particularly in the context of small ventricles.
