Improving Actuator Wearing Using Noise Filtering

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Actuator, mostly valve, wearing is an important factor of the overall industrial control system operational cost. Actuator operational wear strongly depends on its operation. Highly utilized elements have a tendency to degrade faster.

Cervical compressive myelopathy caused by malfunction of a programmable cerebrospinal fluid shunt valve

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Neurosurgery, 2018
The primary treatment for hydrocephalus is ventricular shunt placement, and a programmable valve is widely used for ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt surgery to reduce over/under drainage of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

A Machine Vision-Guided Microphysiological Platform With Automated Microfluidics Enables Longitudinal Biomarker Monitoring and Emulation of Translationally Relevant Exposure Scenarios. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
A pneumatically actuated multi‐tissue microphysiological system is integrated with AI‐based machine vision and automatic sampling and replenishment systems. The platform allows for the emulation of translationally relevant long‐term pharmacokinetic exposure scenarios for multiple weeks while enabling longitudinal monitoring of response biomarkers ...

Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.
