On High Explosive Launching of Projectiles for Shock Physics Experiments
The hydrodynamic operation of the `Forest Flyer' type of explosive launching system for shock physics projectiles was investigated in detail using one- and two-dimensional continuum dynamics simulations.

Cratering Experiments on the Self Armoring of Coarse-Grained Granular Targets
Recently published crater statistics on the small asteroids 25143 Itokawa and 433 Eros show a significant depletion of craters below approx. 100 m in diameter.

Experimental and numerical study of AA5086-H111 aluminum plates subjected to impact [PDF]
An experimental and numerical study of medium-velocity impact (within the range of 120 m/s) has been conducted on thin AA5086-H111 aluminum square plates. Targets with different thicknesses (between 2.5 and 4 mm), stratifications and aluminum alloys have

Scandium (Sc)‐doped AlCoCrFeMo HEA coatings are fabricated via flame spraying with 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt% Sc additions. Among these, the HEA‐Sc0.3 coating exhibits the highest corrosion resistance, indicated by a more positive corrosion potential and lower current density.

The mathematical model of a projectile treated as a rigid body with six- degree-of-freedom motion is adapted and presented as a mathematical model for projectiles having wide initial angles and flying to great distances. The model accuracy is analysed as

Accelerating beams, of which the Airy beam is an important representative, are characterized by intensity maxima that propagate along curved trajectories. In this work we present a simple approach to directly generate accelerating beams with controllable trajectories by means of binary phase structures that consist of only a π phase step modulation in ...

Electromagnetic Meissner effect launcher [PDF]
An electromagnetic projectile launcher provides acceleration of a superconducting projectile through the diamagnetic repulsion of the superconducting projectile. A superconducting layer is provided aft of the projectile, either directly on the projectile

A Non‐Reciprocal Architected Porous Medium
ABSTRACT In several fluid flow, energy‐dumping, and energy‐harvesting applications, a dominant flow direction or dominant resistance direction is desirable. In this study, we propose a simple modular geometry that doubles flow resistance in one direction relative to the opposite direction, while maintaining laminar viscous flow.
