Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Library for Computation in the Projective Space

open access: yes, 2007
The paper describes a library for computation in the projective space developed for use within C# and .NET environment. This experimental library is used to prove that computation in projective space can lead to elimination of the division operation in ...

A projective approach to a language of landscape design

open access: yesLandscape Review, 1997
Building on the work of Kelly (1955) in personal construct psychology, and Peled (1976, I990) in ecoanalysis, this paper develops projective techniques-which use concepts of personal and phenomenological space-as a means for articulating approaches to ...

Hyperosmotic stress‐induced redistribution of pre‐mRNA cleavage factor I subunits is associated with shifts in alternative polyadenylation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Hyperosmotic stress triggers the relocation of the CFIm complex from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. This shift creates a nuclear ‘stoichiometric bottleneck’, limiting CFIm availability for mRNA processing. Consequently, specific mRNAs like NUDT21 and DICER1 undergo targeted 3′UTR shortening, demonstrating how spatial protein dynamics drive rapid ...

How phagocytic cells kill bacteria: Lessons from a professional killer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
How phagocytic cells ingest and kill bacteria has been studied for more than a century, but many questions remain unanswered. The study of the amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum brings new answers, and new questions. Professional phagocytic cells such as neutrophils and macrophages, as well as free‐living soil amoebae like Dictyostelium discoideum, employ

Projective Space in Synthetic Algebraic Geometry

open access: yes
Working in an abstract, homotopy type theory based axiomatization of the higher Zariski-topos called synthetic algebraic geometry, we show that the Picard group of projective n-space is the integers, the automorphism group of projective n-space is PGL(n ...

Effects of IGFBP4 deficiency on human preadipocyte proliferation and differentiation through the IGF1R/AKT pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
IGFBP4 knockdown (KD) impairs preadipocyte proliferation and is associated with IGF1R protein downregulation and attenuated AKT phosphorylation. The mechanisms by which IGFBP4 KD influences the IGF1R/AKT signaling pathway involve newly synthesized proteins and lysosomal degradation pathways. Created in BioRender.

On the projective \(LB\)-spaces

open access: yes, 1992
The main result of the paper is: An LB-space \(Z\) is projective in the category of all LB-spaces (that is: for every LB-space \(X\) every quotient mapping \(q: X\to Z\) has a right inverse) if and only if \(Z\) is isomorphic to the locally convex direct sum of a sequence of \(\ell_ 1(\Gamma)\)-spaces.

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐
